Its the same argument that surrounds unified APIs versus atomic
approaches.  Some swear by unified APIs.  Some swear at them.  Some
grumble, and write atomic wrappers atop the unified API so they have
a system they feel they can work with.  Others grumble and write
unified APIs to wrap atomic function sets.

Its about levels of and tolerance for abstraction.

<<And yes, there have been Smalltalk-like modes for (X)Emacs as well
as having XEmacs integrated/embedded as an editor within Smalltalk
IDEs, but I'll leave that for another to post>>
