The fact that GCC throws away much of the data at the beginning of
the compilation pipeline that could be later used for more
interesting optimisations really doesn't help.  FWVLIW this was the
major driving force behind SGI Open Sourcing their compiler for the
Linux/AI64 project.

Ahh, the wonders of a mail client configured to displau text/plain
in preference to text/html!  I just don't hve to notice that sort of
silliness anymore.
