Just to verify, this also occurred on a system with a different processor 
(Athlon), OS (WinXP) and sound card (Echo Mia), so it's probably not a 
driver thing.  I'm pretty sure it's a programmer thing.

Since it sounds like I'm doing everything right, I'm going to assume that 
it's just Stupid Programmer Syndrome and I'll try to figure it out from there.
