Why would anyone want to disable checking for new versions? It's extremely important to keep up to date and the admin screen is one of the two most important communication channels we have (the other being email list / RSS subscriptions). This needs to be enabled by default, seriously. As for adding an opt out option for the version checks: The more options we have, the clunkier our admin screens become. If people are asking for this feature, we can add it. I'd estimate that maybe 1% of G3 users would actually want to disable these version checks. @Privacy: We'd ensure that no information is sent along such version check requests. Yes, we get the IP, but that's pretty much it. We could anonymize things in our logs, but that's additional effort on our side and people could still decide not to trust us anoymizing the logs. - Andy > Christian > > -----Original Message----- > From: Bharat Mediratta [mailto:bh...@me...] > Sent: 29. desember 2008 19:13 > To: Christian Mohn > Cc: 'Brandon Sussman'; gal...@li... > Subject: Re: [Gallery-devel] opt-in statistics collection for Gallery 3 > > > Right now in G3, we have a sidebar block that parses > http://gallery.menalto.com/node/feed and shows the first 3 stories in > the sidebar.
