Incompatibility with i82541PI NIC

Hello,
We've run into an error with version 2.2 and 2.4 in relation to the intel 82541PI ethernet controller. It appears as though the driver has loaded although I'm not completely sure how to confirm that. The link light will only stay on momentarily which leads me to believe the software is continuously auto-negotiating the network connection. This has been reproduced on 4 identical systems which work correctly with a DOS based GHOST setup and a Knoppix boot disk.
We have attempted to lock down the NIC at 100BT FD but that's had no effect.
Would appreciate any recommendations you might have.
Cheers,
Matt
