Based on my comments on the Firewall Builder web site to the "Paranoid Penguin" articles, I am in the process of writing a semi-comprehensive HowTo on taking a "blank box" and turning it into a firewall using Firewall Builder. This includes some decent hardening of the Linux system itself. It is not even close to being complete but if anyone would like to look at it for QC purposes or to see if I am missing anything important, please feel free to contact me off-list for a copy. One drawback to those running Linux or BSD workstations. The document is written in Microsoft Word 2000 and makes heavy use of the Table of Contents feature. I don't know if this works well in Open Office or any of the non-Windows word processors. Once the HowTo is complete, I will make it a PDF. Also interesting to note, they are *VERY* incomplete, but I am also adding sections on how to set up basic bandsidth monitoring on the firewall via MRTG and also intrusuion detection via Snort/Acid/MySQL. ===== -------------------------------------------------------------- "Never memorize what you can look up." -Albert Einstein |
