Hi, I wonder how a locale can be changed in 2.5.8. I see locale folders in /usr/share/fvwm/locale/... but don't know how to switch between them. Once i fugure that out, i might be interested in adding support for another locale. Thanks, <rsa/> |

They were also impressed with fvwm's new i18n support but expressed a wish to also have a11y (accessibilty) support as well, as this is a necessary requirement for the desktop interfaces they provide. Perhaps this could be added somehow into fvwm-themes? I found a page on the Web Accessibility Initiative at http://www.w3.org/WAI/ I'm quite sure that if a11y could be added to their satisfaction then the fedora crew would be most helpful with the other minor issues that may concern them including their gnome (gconf) configuration editor which is another not so important requirement. The only other big issue facing us is they require only .src.rpm's to be submitted that have been built using their fedora-rpmdevtools and have been GPG signed by the official maintainer. I'm currently building a fedora specific machine for just this purpose and experimenting with those tools to see what other problems may arise. Just FYI the current fvwm rpm's seem to work fine on any fedora install (I've installed them now on several machines) with only some minor font issues. Alex P.S. I'm sorry about the delay on this but I've been really busy lately. |

As I wrote, we should now vote for every new external theme added. Of course, if the author wants to maintain his/her own theme in our cvs, then I can't oppose. So, Andrei, like anyone with the cvs access you may add your own theme. Just fix colors@, it should (like all colors@) contain FuncFvwmDecorBackground function. So, what should be the new themes? I don't want to add many themes, probably just several, since I have no time to maintain all of these. The new themes should be really good and not be disliked by anyone (if there is a vote against any theme, it will not be added). Here is Suzanne's page with window decorations: http://www.igs.net/~tril/fvwm/configs/fvwm-theme/index.html My personal favorites are Crux, Elberg, Galaxy, 23oz. Maybe someone may create a script that converts any Suzanne's theme to the fvwm-themes theme? Or create one theme with several choices instead of several themes. Also some button sets could be made transparent and added to buttons@multichoice. Does someone want to do this? Here is Dorothy page with window decorations: http://www.twobarleycorns.net/fvwm-decors.html My favorites are Purple, ABC. The same here about possible uniting of all decors into one theme and addition of some buttons to buttons@multichoice. There is also FVWM Crystal setup: http://www.linuxpl.org/software/fvwm-crystal/gallery.en.html I didn't receive an email to this list from the author in February. The strange thing it is listed twice in archives, but I didn't get them: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=6205&max_rows=25&style=threaded&viewmonth=200302 I think we should cooperate. It is actually not trivial at all to merge this setup into fvwm-themes, but probably possible. Then Timothy said he has his own transparent theme. Do you have other candidates that we should consider for inclusion? Write what mentioned or non-mentioned themes you would like to see in the future fvwm-themes. Regards, Mikhael. |

However, there are many minor details that need to be addressed in order to make fvwm packages compliant with fedora. For example, the Quality Assurance Checklist at http://www.fedora.us/wiki/QAChecklist cites in point 6.... 6. Is the Group tag an official one? See /usr/share/doc/rpm-*/GROUPS. And although the current value in fvwm.spec and fvwm-themes.spec of "Group: X11/Window Managers" may have been technically correct in the past, it apparently no longer complies with the acceptable list of valid groups (http://www.fedora.us/wiki/RPMGroups). There are lots of rather trivial issues that need to be sorted out, as well as a couple of major ones. I'll try to compose a list of things I find and post them later. As for my becoming the fvwm package maintainer for fedora, the biggest overwhelming argument against such an idea is that I'm really not qualified for the job. There will undoubtedly need to be many discussions on a technical level dealing with all these issues, and although I'm quite willing to assist fvwm any way I can, all I can do in those situations is act as an intermediary. However, having said that, I will investigate more and begin the process, and will advise of any major difficulties I find. Alex |

Hi, Olivier. I see some bugs in colorsets or this is my misunderstanding of how colorsets should work. Please take a look. 1) fgAlpha does not seem to work at all. With 0.7.0, load modules@redmondxp, any @colors, for example colors@redmondxp, and in FvwmConsole execute: Colorset 1 fgAlpha 50 Colorset 19 fgAlpha 50 # this is what I need to work, IconAlpha works These commands do not have any effect. 2) With the same panel, execute these commands to change the background of IconMan buttons, one by one: Colorset 17 bg gray # it is now a bit flat with gray tone Colorset 17 bg gray # it is now more flat and more gray Colorset 17 bg gray # it is now even more flat and even more gray Colorset 17 Tint # it now looks properly, I think; 3d-ish gray I really hope these are just small bugs. :) Regards, Mikhael. |

But anyway, I'm not sure if its an improvement, Yes, it is not a big improvement, but I incorporated your changes. More work is needed in the future. I improved several things, like struts, ActionOnPress in menu bar, non resizable NeverFocus panels and so on. Disabling certain modules by default is not done like you did. It should be done by changing default=<num> lines in modules.cfg. Ok, now testing. Please everyone test everything, all options and combinations in different themes. I know about one problem. Some windows after theme reload loose their icon images when iconified, only icon titles are left. I didn't take a look at it yet, but seems like a bug in fvwm. Don't forget about screenshots if you can do it better than on the web. Regards, Mikhael. |

I din't decide yet whether to overwrite the theme colorset 18 (focused FvwmIconMan item) or not, nothing seems perfect. I think we should simply draw the pressed mask that looks nice instead of using our sunken look. Some notes, you can't use images/module/ images in colors@, this directory is reserved for modules@, you should use images/modcolor/ instead, or specify full image path using $./images/. > I'm going to see if I can make some kind of osx like module now. > (hopeful I'll get it done soon). There are several reasons why I want to release fvwm-themes-0.7.0 in October together with fvwm-2.5.8. It is possible I will not have enough time in November. So, we have about one week to complete open issues or postpone them. Please activelly help. The open issues include RedmondXP, OSX and Transparent themes, screenshots of these and other new themes and deb packages. Please test the cvs version and report any problem with themes (no errors should appear on the X output, ignore the fvwm debug messages for now). I think fvwm-themes-0.7.0 is going to be fantastic even if we postpone all open issues, but I wish to complete and include them instead. Regards, Mikhael. |

Ok, I installed fakeroot from AltLinux (with --nodeps) and deb from SuSE 8.2, and "make deb-dist" seems to work on RedHat. I just restored my previous change about sed (until Andrei finds a better solution) and created deb package (with .dsc and company) without any problem. It just failed to debsign, not a real problem.
