The plans were to continue to update and improve everything and keep fvwm-themes synchronized with fvwm features. Basically fvwm-themes was developed by me and Olivier and we implemented what we saw the most useful for ourselves and possibly for others. I believe it slowed down because we were too busy and it was not too fun anymore, and possibly because we reached some happeness with the existing code. How can it be continued? Well, one of the scenarios is similar to what was done with wm-icons that was not developed for years. Mikko Heiskanen came and told me he wants to add several nice png-based icon-sets and to make some more improvements (including a completely new web page), but he needs an assistence with this. I have a time to assist. So we cooked together the wm-icons-0.4.0 release. Other scenarios are possible too. If someone takes all the organization care and decent development, then he will naturally become the main developer. Or alternatively, if someone may make me or Olivier motivited once again, we may spend more time on fvwm-themes and all together cook some good release. I'll write another email on the plans. The Olivier comments are welcome. Regards, Mikhael. |

Just to clarify, I spoke about help with maintaining all numerous themes, scripts and configurations. fvwm-themes is complex enough, so probably only me and Olivier understand it wholly. But anyone may learn it too. Alex and 6 more people already have write permissions in cvs. I may add Thomas as a project developer with needed permissions after he creates a SourceForge account and tells me the unix name. Waiting for good commits. Let's continue this topic on fvwm-themes-devel list, if needed. Regards, Mikhael. |

Hi, I am trying to install fvwm-themes into a temporary directory DESTDIR and get the following error: PATH="/pkgsrc-clean/wm/fvwm-themes-new/work.i386/.destdir/usr/pkg/bin:/usr/pkg/bin:$PATH"; /pkgsrc-clean/wm/fvwm-themes-new/work.i386/.destdir/usr/pkg/bin/fvwm-themes-config --site --reset No theme.cfg for default found *** Error code 2 It looks like the command PATH="$(DESTDIR)$(bindir):$(FVWM_BINDIR):$$PATH"; \ $(DESTDIR)$(bindir)/fvwm-themes-config --site --reset in the Makefile does not take into account that all the files were installed to the temporary directory DESTDIR and tries to find theme.cfg in the running system (/usr/pkg/share/fvwm2/.. in my case) instead. The same problem would occur if the variables BUILD_MENUS, GNOME_ICONS and KDE2_ICONS were set to "yes" in the Makefile and the commands fvwm-themes-menuapp and fvwm-themes-images would try to run. ciao Klaus Heinz |

The menus are quite outdated, someone should just add many more programs (fvwm-themes-menuapp leaves only actual apps on the user's system). Regards, Mikhael. |

Please consider adding gaim to the menus-programs. I am using the following configuration: + "Gaim%gaim-mini.png%" Exec exec gaim The path to gaim is: /usr/bin/gaim (default installation in gentoo) Thank you, Mihai __________________________________ Yahoo! I am configuring a minimal desktop for my parents, and so I got more motivation to work on fvwm-themes. :) I think RedmondXP theme is quite usable for this purpose (with some new fvwm features added in cvs). What I want to do is to translate menus and other configuration parts. This was mentioned already here, and I expect for some help: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=4765975&forum_id=6205 How many people here want to translate menu labels to native languages? And selected it from the menu. It didn't work very well. Restart fixed most of the problems though. The problems with this theme: * you include a lot of backup files into tarball * you should not include components bindings, settings, startup, styles into you theme. Instead you may start/stop things or define/undefine bindings in modules/main, and define module styles in modules/styles * you don't do anough clean up, so if I select another theme (say @migo), some things remain from your theme that should not * menu is unreadable on the top of the screen, it also flashes with white because you use "bg white", there are several solutions here P.S. I don't have a lot of time in August, so my answers may be late. Regards, Mikhael. |

If you speak about changing locale, then you may open FvwmConsole (Alt-F12 in fvwm-themes) and type: Restart env LANG=tt_RU.utf8 fvwm-themes-start This runs fvwm under a different locale. You may restart your existing applications as well. To make it automatical, you may add "export LANG=..." line into .xinitrc before starting fvwm-themes-start or fvwm. But if you speak about changing key maps on the fly, then you don't need to restart anything, there is xmodmap command and several frondends to it, like xruskb. Search freshmeat.net to find more. This is where the localized strings of fvwm (and probably fvwm-themes later) may be placed. But currently nothing actually uses these strings. There are different files for every application, so called domains. For example, /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/fvwm.mo contains strings for fvwm (possibly menu strings) translated to French. fvwm-themes.mo could contain the strings used by fvwm-themes menus. This is a theory. In practice, there is yet work to be done to actually achieve the internationalized menus. > I'm seeing a few other i18n folders, but they don't appear to be of any > use for fvwm. Every application (including fvwm) may define its i18n, usually using the standard "locale" mechanism, but any other mechanism (like the one used by fvwm-themes currently) is possible too. So, currently until there is another mechanism, you may translate seven FvwmScript related files (*.html and *.msg). Regards, Mikhael. |

Is it possible to have internationalized menus? If yes, is this configured thru fvwm, or OS-wide (as in /usr/share/locale/)? > > > >>Once i fugure that out, i might be interested in adding support for >>another locale. >> >> > >Ok, send the translations and they will be included in the next version. > Do i understand correctly, that currently internationalization in fvwm is being achieved thru the following folders: /usr/share/fvwm/locale/... /usr/share/locale/... I'm seeing a few other i18n folders, but they don't appear to be of any use for fvwm. So it looks like if i wanted to add a locale to fvwm, i'd be dealing with the 2 hierarchies above. Although the apps launched from fvwm still use the regular OS i18n properties files, right (such as KDE i18n config)? > >Regards, >Mikhael. > > > >--__--__-- > > Thanks, <rsa/> |

This directory is used by fvwm-themes for several GUI dialogs. There is also /usr/share/locale/ directory with translations of fvwm, FvwmTaskBar and other fvwm related strings, it is not finalized yet and not directly used in fvwm-themes currently. > but don't know how to switch between them. You should either invoke these dialogs with --lang option, like: FvwmScript FvwmScript-ColorSelector --lang fr Or set your locale before starting fvwm-themes-start, like: export LANG=fr_FR@euro Then french language (the first 2 letters are "fr") should be used by default in these dialogs. > Once i fugure that out, i might be interested in adding support for > another locale. Ok, send the translations and they will be included in the next version. Regards, Mikhael. |
