Ah, ok, we will fix this on "make install" when --prefix is specified.
Installing with --prefix is less tested.

The correct solution is to always have both fvwm bindir and fvwm-themes
bindir in your $PATH in order to correctly run fvwm-themes scripts.
This is done automatically when you start fvwm using fvwm-themes-start.

hello again.  i have solved the problem myself, but i don't think it's
quite a robust solution.  i put the full path to fvwm-config into the
fvwm-themes-config.1 & fvwm-themes-config.in  perhaps i should have the
/util/X11R6/fvwm-test/ in my path and export that (?)  sorry for newbie
questions..  it just seems that configure should pass on my
--with-fvwm-bindir to this and update appropriately, ie i should not have
had to do either of the potential solutions..

hello, i just downloaded the .bz2 package from the website, and had a
problem installing the themes.  i am running fvwm 2.4.5 which is
located in the path specified by bindir -- this is the correct setup
as far as i know.  i'm merely a student at this university without
root access -- so i am trying to install the themes locally.  here is the
relevant snip:

i've gone through the faq but saw nothing addressing this whatsoever, it

Only first and third are really needed to build rpm.
I have fixed this problem with rpm-4.0.3.

Actually I recently upgraded my redhat 7.1 to rh7.2 by using the apt-rpm
utility I found at http://apt-rpm.tuxfamily.org, which is just apt-get
ported to redhat and seems to work superbly with no problems.

My rpm -qa | grep rpm reveals....

rpm-4.0.3-1.03
rpmdb-redhat-7.2-0.20010924
rpm-build-4.0.3-1.03
rpm-devel-4.0.3-1.03

However, I've played about with editing rpm/Makefile.in and found that
if I change --target=noarch-fvwm-linux to --target noarch-fvwm-linux and
remove the = character I get a new error....

Building target platforms: tmp-fvwm-themes.spec
Building for target tmp-fvwm-themes.spec
error: failed to stat /home/awol/cvs/fvwm-themes/rpm/noarch-fvwm-linux:
No such file or directory
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/awol/cvs/fvwm-themes/rpm'

Does this help diagnose the problem better?

Which rpm version do you use? Yours seems do not understand --target.
Did you change systems or downgrade the rpm package recently?

Okay, I had to do a fresh checkout of the cvs tree to get it to work
properly. Somehow I must have messed up my old cvs tree, but make dist
and make rpm-dist for fvwm  seems to be working fine now.

However, now with fvwm-themes I'm getting "--target=noarch-fvwm-linux:
unknown option"
This is also a fresh checkout of the fvwm-themes cvs sources. And it
does it for all rpm-dist's although make rpm-dist5 obviously produces
more of them.
Just doing make dist seems to work though.
autoreconf and automake appears to have no effect no matter how many
times you do them.

Any other info you need?

Regarding separated colors for menus and windows etc....New theme!

Going back to the discussion regarding separating window colors from
menu colors and modules etc...

Attached is a new theme mixNmatch which attempts in the very most
simplistic way to do just that.

There's only backgrounds and colors as components so far, but a palette
of 21 standard colors that I ripped from the rgb.txt that came with X,
so I may have duplicated some colors from other themes but I've split
the colorsets.

I know it still needs some tidying up but I offer it now with a request
for comments along with a further request for volunteers for reviewers
for fvwm.themes.org as I cannot review my own submissions. All the basic
www.themes.org/docs/fvwm/ documentation is in place and I have the first
"example" theme in a queue awaiting review.

Other submissions of new themes are also greatly desired.  :)

Questions, problems or suggestions regarding the fvwm.themes.org site
can be emailed to fv...@th.... Bug reports can be submitted to
bu...@th....

A large number of staff are always available at various times on
irc.openprojects.net #themes.org depending on local time zones, to

Fixed. I had to add hi and sh for active windows for some reason just to
get the right "look".

It's a little problematic right now re-editing docs, needing an admin to
re-queue it.
This will change when all the tools are in place. At the moment the
content is the most important. I tried to briefly describe most issues
that new users should be aware of. The formatting can be sorted out and
touched up later.

I've submitted the Example theme and I believe it's awaiting review. In
the meantime, I've attached what I hope will be a "final" version.  :)

Alex, you did a typo, missed a slash - rgb:21/4491 should be rgb:21/44/91
so the background in your theme and tutorial is simply black-blue-black.

I personally don't like the title black background, and generally any
background color with _lighter_ shadow color, or respectivelly, _darker_
hilight color. I would replace all Black background with DeepSkyBlue4.

One more suggestion, I would use italic for <i>component</i> names and
bold for <b>theme</b> names in tutorial. Also file names may be in italic
too if appropriated. Parts of configs may probably go inside <pre></pre>
or in <font size="-1" color="navy">different color</font>.

Yes! You are both correct of course.

I agree that creating not only colors-menu but perhaps even
colors-module and colors-extra is possible and could create interesting
combinations. This is however unnecessarily complicated and most
certainly could confuse a new user. I stuck with the proper form of
colors-decor (without the menus), but I adjusted the text in the tuorial
a little to discuss the colors component some more.

Very nice! I'll have to look into this utility some more. I adjusted all
4 colorsets to match this background.

The last hurdle is to get this new theme reviewed on themes.org so it
can go "live" as  one can't review their own themes and give themselves
10 marbles. IMHO this theme is worth 2, maybe 3 because of the nice
background. ;-P  I think I need to advertise for fvwm theme reviewers.
Anyone can become one by simply adjusting their committments after login
to themes.org. See the Volunteers Handbook for details.

Also if anyone wishes to join the fv...@th... list simply mail it
and I will add them. It doesn't get very much traffic at all currently
but hopefully that may change.

I wanted a simple example. The users probably may be feared if they need
to define all ~30 colorsets instead of 4, just to get started.
But of course it is not clean that Alex used menu colors in colors-decor.

I forgot to say that it is better to use 0.6.0 not 0.6.1 as the version of
the example theme. You may edit /installed/bin/fvwm-themes-config to
temporarily contain the latest released version number and repack.

I think we may make it a policy in the near future that the theme format
is not changed in all versions with only the last digit different. So the
tarball version could be simply 0.6 or 0.6.x (where x is a letter as is).

Ok, some small points.

It is probably good to rename howto.example to README inside the theme.
There are some English spelling typos in it, but this is ok.

There are small bugs:

In buttons@example replace 2 and 4 in MWMDecorMin and MWMDecorMax.
In colors-decor@example instead of the line that belongs to windowlook:

  + I TitleStyle  -- flat

it should be (similarly in colors@default):

  + I TitleStyle Inactive   (Solid grey65)
  + I TitleStyle ActiveUp   (Solid grey75)
  + I TitleStyle ActiveDown (Solid grey75)
  + I TitleStyle ToggledInactive   (Solid grey65)
  + I TitleStyle ToggledActiveUp   (Solid grey75)
  + I TitleStyle ToggledActiveDown (Solid grey75)

Other than this, a good work.

The subject line contains what will become the name of the doc but I
haven't posted it yet. I thought it best to get someone to checkout the
theme for any glaring errors or discrepancies, maybe even some tips(?).
I've included the howto.example doc inside the attached tarball. I think
it's best to do this so that anyone can download this theme and use it
as a template to create their own themes following the tutorial.

Subject to any corrections made, I will post this theme at themes.org
with a front page announcement. Hopefully it will help to spur more
interest in the project.
