I may add mine :) If a filesystem exports a symbol with its operations, you can write filesystem "combinators", for example parallel composition, or sequential composition (aka stacking as already mentioned in the OP's). Moreover, fuse filesystems exporting such a library would be reusable as plugins. I wish I had more time (than 0) for fuse...
