This seems to have been looked at before but if anything any implementation done seems to have been for the opposite direction.

I would like to see a feature at some point in the future which allows a joystick (whether real or the keyboard-emulated one) to operate arbitrarily selected Spectrum keys on its movement directions. This would add a way to use joystick control to just about any game, even if the keys are unusual... such as the ASPL layout used by Caesar the Cat. Admittedly this one could be Kempston controlled as well, but not all possible setups work with this. A 2 left, 4 right layout is used by some games, and a freely programmable joystick would allow for this too.

This would have the interesting side-effect of adding emulator-side redefinable keys to any game - set the keyboard joystick to work the keys the game requires while itself being worked by the user's desired keys.
