PROBLEM: I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 Laptop. I put all
my furthur files on a Seagate 160 GB external hard
drive. I configured Furthur to save and share the files
on the External hard drive. When the external hard
drive is not connected, Furthur will not start up. The
black DOS screen appears and then disappears, without
the program ever starting up. As soon as I plug in the
external hard drive and click on the icon, it starts up
fine. This, however, limits where I use Furthur to where
my external hard drive is - at home. Every time I try to
start Furthur, such as at school or at a friend's home, it
will not start up without my external hard drive. All
Furthur files, except for the shared files, are located on
my C: drive, so that should not be a problem. It just
won't start without the shared files. I hope this helps.
My connection is fine. There are 4.32TB+ shared.
I have 81 complete uploads and 41 complete downloads.
The only other programs running simultaneously are
Outlook and Internet Explorer, but only sporatically.

Interestin gproblem. What should happen is that Furthur
starts up OK, but gives lots of errors about missing filesets.
Can you confirm the location of two files: sharing.cfg and
furthur.cfg, and of the directory \.furthur (< note the
".")? Are they on your C:\ drive or your external HD?

Both sharing.cfg and furthur.cfg are located at C:\Documents
and Settings\jm4wb\.furthur. They are all on the external HD.

CORRECTION: Excuse me, sharing.cfg and furthur.cfg and
the \.furthur are all on the C:\ on my computer.
