Hmm. A number of people have asked "what *is* this Temporal Funge you keep mentioning?" Well, I meant to have a basic working version several weeks ago; however, school and my job have kept me far busier than I care to reflect on. It may have to wait until spring break. In addition, I am chagrined to note that I am not the first to think of time travel in Funge programs. The Befunge FAQ (available at Patrick Jordan's FTP site -- ftp://ftp.antistatic.com/pub/source/funge/) shows that the Great and Wonderful Chris Pressey thought of this some time ago. What is interesting is that my Temporal Funge idea exactly matches his Chronefunge spec, with a couple of minor additions. Go read it. Anyway, maybe the idea somehow seeped into my subconscious years ago, and I just now remembered it, or maybe I did think of it independently. Which shows that twisted minds think alike too. Either way, I think it's a nifty idea, and I'm implementing it as soon as I get a chance. I do have a working Befunge-93 interpreter (except for randomness and input) written in pure Java 2. It also includes non-Funge98-compliant threading. If you want to look at that, there are instructions for accessing the CVS repository at: http://funge.sourceforge.net/ -- vsync Beware. |
