This message is regarding the development of the next version of Funge. (Is it Funginium? Of course, stickler that I am, I refuse to participate in the use of that name for any releases that occur before the year 2001.) There are two points here. Point One: I think that perhaps we should base our development on Befunge-93. I have a few reasons for this. First, if we are going to develop a core microfunge, it seems that an early, simpler version would be the best thing to base that work on top of. And second, there have been so many versions and compilers of various funges over the years, that much confusion has been created. One thing we can count on, however, is all of those compilers being (relatively) backwards compatible with the Befunge-93 specification. Point Two: How many people are on this list? Perhaps we should introduce ourselves if we really hope to produce anything. I'm Joshua Belsky, a third year computer engineering major at UC Davis in California. My computer related interests include industrial automation, embedded systems, human-computer interaction, and fractals. I am a firm believer in strict standardization of all computer related things. I hate anything that causes confusion. Along those lines, I'm a big fan of authoritative sources of information on a single subject, especially if it is a standard. It is nice to have one book or website to turn to that you know will have all the information you need. Who are you? -------------------------------- Joshua Belsky jjb...@uc... http://www.belsky.net |
