Fte is a rapid tool for several reasons. One major I discovered when having to use sfte (no X11).
Suddenly all my keyboard shortcuts went down the drain. How do I get them to work?
Works:
F9 ,F10 Alt + menu-highlights
Not:
for example:Shift + movement
Regds

If you're logged directly on the computer, you can try experimenting with different term-types. If you're logged in via SSH or similar, I don't think you can expect it to work, as shift will be intercepted by the computer you are currently sitting at.
To copy/past in sfte, I use alt-a to start marking, arrowkeys to select, and then alt-e to menu to select copy or paste stream. You may have to experiment with term-type and console settings for this to work too.
