sometimes the proxy I use while in my office answers saying that it did not receive any answer before its timeout. Note that it is different from the message "Il sistema non risponde..." which means that frenf.it sends an answer, but it could not retrieve the text.
what is the timeout of your office proxy? maybe is is less than frenf.it webserver timeout (currently 2 min.) and in case of very slow response from frenf.it you get that error. No fix available, until the response time of the overall frenf.it infrastructure (including application and database) will be reduced.

nope, I only got a screen stating it. Next time it happens I'll look at the HTML source, maybe there's something more.

It's a 504 gateway timeout (see professor mvs reply). The cause is frenf.it response slowness, which exceeds the proxy timeout.
