For ship, this section is located midway between the fore and aft perpendiculars.
For yachts it is more common to put it midway between the fore and aft ends of the waterline.

Freeship puts it half of the project length before the zero-ordinate (so practically halfway the aft and fore perp.) however you can modify this and use a default location from within the project settings dialog.
