Here's what I'd propose as guidelines: a simple rabbit (no rabbit on top of a computer or something like that). he could look on the internet for pictures of real rabbits, for inspiration or to find one which appears to have the perfect positioning for a logo. Not only this is useful for potential ports to mobile devices, but the trend is getting to desktop computers as well: Gnome 3 and Unity now pretty much look like they're starting "apps" with round icons.
