Hello FreeRDP developers, I had an idea the other day for a FreeRDP logo. I was thinking about it, and a lot of open source projects use an animal to represent them, oftentimes a cute one. Here's a short list that comes to my mind right now: Linux Twitter Firefox Thunderbird Perl Python etc... Obviously, the first thing that comes to mind when trying to think of an icon suitable for a remote desktop application is something that somehow represents a computer remotely accessed (an antenna, a computer, etc). I think that logos using those type of elements have been pretty much used by a lot of other projects already. I think we'd be better off with something significantly different from those logos, something simple that would be instantly recognized as "FreeRDP" and not just a "remote desktop client". The most beautiful logos I could find for other remote desktop applications are usually for applications in the App Store or on the Android Market. Here are some apps with interesting logos: http://jumpdesktop.com/ Jump Desktop - a skydiver in the clouds http://www.wyse.com/products/software/pocketcloud/index.asp - a kite in the clouds Most other logos I could find are pretty much variants of a "remote computer", otherwise they have some sort of double arrows like Remote RDP Enterprise: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.toremote.serversmanager&feature=search_result I own a rabbit because it's pretty much the only type of nice animal I can get with my allergies. I tweeted a pic of him the other day: http://twitpic.com/4uqsbm I was thinking - rabbits are cute animals, and a rabbit logo could actually make sense: if a skydiver makes sense for "jump desktop", then a rabbit could make sense for FreeRDP. The metaphor would be that FreeRDP can make you "jump" to a remote computer, just like a rabbit can jump. Rabbits are fast runners as well, just like FreeRDP :P Alternatively, we could also think of it as the rabbit leaping like FreeRDP leaps over the competition, hehe. Rabbits are used for various companies, but I don't think a lot of open source projects actually use it as their logo. In any case, even if other projects use a rabbit, the goal would be to have a logo that clearly differentiates us from the other RDP clients out there, instead of just being one of the many. What do you guys think? Would a rabbit make a nice logo for FreeRDP? |
