i have an Intel 10GB SR adapter. it loads the ixgb driver in the 32 bit version, but its missing in the 64 bit version. Even though it loads in the 64 bit version it detects the card as a 1000sx adapter. i thought it was just a semantics mistake but we did some throughput test and it really thinks its only gigabit and not 10 gigabit. ifconfig -a also says its a 1000sx adapter.

It was the 0.7 version. i'm fairly new to the freenas world. i've been using openfiler. I was really excited to use ZFS in freenas though.
As far as ixgb vs ixgbe they are for two different chip sets, as far as i know, so i think they could co-exist. and, when installing the 32 bit version it detects the NIC and everything works just fine. in the 64 bit version it doesnt' detect the NIC, so i didnt' even realize the "E" version of the driver was there and it probably wouldn't have worked anyway. in Openfiler, 64 bit, the ixgb driver loads and autodetects my nic just fine. so you could probably look at that as an example.
one last thing. if the "E" version is supposed to be a replacement for the non "E" version i would think its hardware detection would have worked, and it didn't. which meants its NOT a replacement, or its misconfigured in the installation.
