this is a normal behavior. If you press the 'Apply' button the script '/etc/rc.d/samba restart' is executed. Due this Samba will be stopped for a moment.
Please describe exactly what you are doing, this will help me to reproduce your scenario.

Basically, in the latest nightly build 0.69b4 I can make Samba shares, but my Vista machine doesn't see the shares. FreeNAS works (FTP, SSH) but no way I can map a drive, Vista doesn't want to connect (tried the tricks too).
Looks like a Samba issue to me (another user reported problems with XP and Mac client as well, going back to latest stable worked fine).

Hi, please give the latest 0.69b4 revision >= 3850 a try, it includes misc samba improvements and bug fixes.
