#102 format of OS disk partition possible

FreeNAS 0.671

I installed freenas in mode when 2 partitions are on
single disk, ad0, 100MB.

I was able to format ad0 disk latter from WWW
interface. There was some error about permission but my
disk configuration changed from two partition 32+72MB
to one 100MB partition (checked with ranish partition
manager).

This should not be possible, WWW interface should be
smart enougth. It should reformat only data partition
or reject such danger request; I still can boot to
FreeNAS after reboot but I am not sure if system is
healthy...

I know, RTFM. ;-) I just tried to be a BFU user and
tried how smart FreeNAS is...

Actualy, I failed to configure FreeNAS in "single" disk
mode. When I skip formating of ad0, I was unable to store
any data with ftp client to NAS. In the case it is working,
configuration procedure is very tricky and I don't know it.

From my point of view, single disk install should be very
simple and most services should be preconfigured in NAS
after install, administrator only needs to enable services
    that he needs.

It is possible that single disk install is broken now.

    Normally it's not possible:
The disk where you installed FreeNAS is locked (because
mount in read only mode for the config.xml file)....

    But I will try it.

I retested this scenario today with VMware server 1.0 and I
was able to create single disk configuration of FreeNAS. So,
only my initial comment is valid, it is possible to rewrite
disk partition with OS. Add it is "tricky" to configure
single disk system that is true, Last time I missed
instructions printed after disk partitining and I failed to
configure FreeNAS right. This time I noticed that two line
help but it was not simple to follow it (you have to select
correct partition to mount). I hope, I will remeber next
time how to do it... ;-)

It is possible that root partition is mounted read-only but
disklabel is not protected and could be modified.

I retested with FreeNAS 0.68. I cannot format ad0 now, I receive red message "The disk is currently mounted! Unmount this disk first before proceeding." This is good, I like it.
