I am using FreeMind on Gentoo linux system. FreeMind version is 1.0.1.
I want to insert an image into one node. I am using right mouse click when the node is selected, then choosing the image file and hit OK. But the image is not shown in the mind map. Why?
On the attached image there is a child node of the mb1 parent node. It is selected, but the image added to it can't be seen.
Also when hit Alt+K on a selected node, I get not the File Chooser to select an image but a small window where one can manually add an image path - I think. Why?
But if I click with Left mouse button on this selected node ( which should show the image ) I get a window for editing this node. After I edited in this window the real path to the image, I get the image shown but in this window for editing the node only. After I close this window for editing, I get the node but without image.
Thx for this advice, I can see this works.
However I have used freemind for years and have not needed to do this until very recently. I have hundreds of mind maps with images. Is there some setting I can apply that can do this for me - I am assuming that something has changed for this new behaviour - Is there something I can do to counter it that does not involve editing every image I have in all my mind maps?

I have the same problem. I use also Windows. I use Freemind for several years and many of my maps contain image's that I do not see anymore. To scale out every Image is no option and we really need a solution for this. This limits the Freemind functionality so much, if not solved, that I'm afraid we have to leave this very nice tooling. :-(

In addition, I dont think it is an OS problem but I think it is in Java, after reinstalling my laptop and also reinstalling Java (newest version) this problem appeared.

The problem is in the latest version of Java from April 16, 2019.
Cannot insert images after upgrading to this version.
Please author FreeMind to update the program.

I still experience the same problem today (March 2020) can't link images or local files to nodes. Version of the program 1.1.0 beta2 on Linux Ubuntu 18.04 and I run the latest java version [JDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.6+10-post-Ubuntu-1ubuntu118.04.1].
I also swicthed to java 8 to see if that works but still this did not solve the problem.
Is there any workaround as of today to get this excellent program to work properly?

well, inside ~/.freemind/ I can see 4 foldres: "2", "4", "common" and "current".
Inside "2" there's a log of an older installation of freemind (april 2019- then I upgraded my system and probably the backup saved those older files).
Inside "4" and "common" I find several log files as of today. I attach the " log.0".
Thanks!

The full path of the image.

I have the same problem. I use Windows. Doing what you sad in each map is very dificult because I have several maps too. Is it the only way?

It is a known Java bug. See my post https://sourceforge.net/p/freeplane/discussion/758437/thread/948dad2f90/ for the details.
This is good news.

what is java -version reporting exactly? (both for 11 and 8)
For java 11 : openjdk version "11.0.6" 2020-01-14
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.6+10-post-Ubuntu-1ubuntu118.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.6+10-post-Ubuntu-1ubuntu118.04.1, mixed mode, sharing)

OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.242-b08, mixed mode)
Ok, looks fine. Perhaps, it is something else. Can you send the log files, please?
TIA, Chris
Not sure if these are the log files you requested. Is that it?
Thanks
Thanks, but in the folder ~/.freemind/ there is a file log.0 or the like. That I would need.
TIA, Chris

Hi, looks pretty fine. Can you create a file with a single image and send both to me, please?
TIA, Chris
Sure, here it is!
