Whilst trying to solve another problem, I reinstalled the most recent stable version.

I uninstalled the previous version which I was using as instructed (1.0.0) and after installing 1.0.1 my files no longer have the freemind icon.

I've tried a reboot and a few more things and they just aren't coming back. Any thoughts?

I can confirm the same problem with 1.0.1. If I downgrade back to 1.0.0 then the icon is again displayed correctly.

With a desktop full of files/icons it's not easy to find .mm files without the icon.

    Hi,

the problem is now known to me (thanks to you), the reason clear (the freemind.exe has only one icon inside and not two, as before), and I'll try to fix it.

Hello - is there already a fix in sight? It´s hard to discover the files on the desktop if the icon is the std.-icon only (and not a good promotion, too) and the workaround to manually make shortcuts of every file in order to be able to change the icon is a little uncomfortable of course.

It's been a year now since this issue was acknowledged, yet no update?

Unfortunatelly still no update as far as I know - would be great to get a fix and have the butterflies back on my desktop :-)

As a quick fix, you can download FileTypesMan, find ".mm" extension and double click on it. Then change "Default icon" path from "/path/to/freemind.exe,1" to "/path/to/freemind.exe,0"

Thanks to explain the reason for the problem. I've opened regedit and changed
      [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Freemind\DefaultIcon]
      from
      C:\Program Files (x86)\FreeMind\freemind.exe,1
      to
      C:\Program Files (x86)\FreeMind\freemind.exe,0

and after a reboot the icons are back

Anton, jamoke2code thank you! You guys are awesome.

This worked perfectly. After almost 2 years, I have my icons back.

Thank you, Anton. The simplest fix.
