As mentioned in my previous mail, the exact version of the window manager used is important here (e.g kdm from KDE 3.4.0 or twm X.Y or fwm X.Y or ...). The version of X11 is rather irrelevant because the resolution switching is triggered by the window manager, not by the X11 core itself. And the problem is that there is no real universally accepted and implemented standard for switching resolutions yet... :-( I'm using KDE 3.4.0's kdm and things work for me, can you test with a similar KDE version?
