And even with two screens it does not always happen, It is quite
possible that it only rarely happens.

I have only seen it with a NVidia card + two HDMI attached projectors,
and Microsoft Windows (7). I wonder if there is something specific
related to HDMI which is important here (like some copy protection
junk....). With this specific setup the problem did happen always, and
reverting to an older version did fix it.

I will try this next time I have the opportunity.

Related to your other message, I still sometimes have issues with
freeglut fullscreen window not hiding the bar at the bottom of the
window. (on Windows 7 and Vista). But I think I can get rid of this
with an extra PopWindow or by clicking the window with mouse.
