The way both CVS and SVN work is that the repository always translates files into and out of local conventions. So under Windows, you get CR/LF, under Linux/UNIX you get LF and on ancient Mac's you get CR. If you start messing with that by overriding the defaults then all hell breaks loose. Someone edits one of your files under Linux and it gets screwed up - someone edits it again on a Mac - it gets even more screwed up. But the BIG MESSAGE is: please discuss these things on the mailing list before you dive in and change that kind of stuff. Maybe what you did was OK - maybe not - but at least talk about it first. We aren't all Windows users! |
