I'm new to c++ myself and have started a hacking game based in the early '80s. If you would like to help out in any kind of way let me know.

OK great I'm new to c++ as well and also to source forge. My project is prilevges. https://source forge.net/projects/prilevges

I have this license under GNU v.3. There is a download of what I stared so far and it dose run. Its only about 2000 lines and if you like the code can be viewed at the github link in the description.

I'd like to keep it to only programming in the standard libaray for this project and if it goes over well a second will be planned with graphics and multiplayer over the internet that I will plan to sell for a small profit and share that with the developers. We will cross that bridge when we get there.

For now you can take a look at what I done so far and this project will be ours and whoever else joins in the future. Its not mine if you help is all I'm saying.

Go ahead and take a look and see what you think so far. There are game files in the rar file that I posted here and in the code you will need to set the proper locations for it to work. Its hard coded for the file locations at the moment but I'll change that.

Ok I got you added to the project as a developer. We can talk in the forms on the project page or you can email me. My email should be public on here.

Never mind... After taking a look at the code, no offense but I lost all hope. It's just C with some C++ methods used. Almost everything is dumped inside main, inside a for loop... The indentation is consistent and quite good, but it doesn't compensate for the rest.

Also, the RAR file doesn't work for me, it says it's corrupted or something.

I'll have to look into the rar file it should have been fine. I don't understand class programming but that's why I'm looking for some help to improve the project.
I would very much like you to join to help improve the project and I'm sure I can catch on to a better programming style. I need someone like you to help me and this project.

Not that it matters much but almost everything is dumped inside of main() in a do while loop.

You know what never mind greaper I know your probably used to more exciting 2d/3d engine building awesome projects but this is the first crappy piece of dirt programming I have ever made in c++. Forget you and I'm sure your awesome first programs just blew everyone away. Your type of attidue isn't what I'm looking for.

    Get on and keep going!

This is what open source is about? People publicly putting down what I have done?
Things not up to a certain standard? Am I in the wrong place to help, share, and learn?

Look, you asked for help. Then you complain about my criticism, which wasn't even harsh.

I admit I was a little over the top with the "I lost all hope" bit, but it was partly due to my "frustration" that I wouldn't be able to help you, even though I wanted to.

You know, the thing with projects is that the "learning" will need to be done by you alone, even if I were part of your team you would learn little from me. For example, you may notice that I'd like to break that long main of yours into many functions, even without classes. Use relative paths in most cases. Add a little bit more comments. Use standard C++ and cross-platform solutions( like SDL ) instead of OS-specific ones( like POSIX ).

Your game is a nice example of an organically built program. You added things as you went along, and although this is a good way to learn, it's one of the worst ways to produce. Right now, only you know how it works, and it'd be living hell for anyone else to even try. That's why I can't help you.

I never tried to belittle you or your efforts. If it even seemed that way, I'm sorry.

Hold up look at it from my perspective. I didn't ask for help as far as an comments. I'm asking for c++ programmers to help. On top of that instead of leaving a negative comment that I can't remove while I'm looking for people you could have email me. For all I know someone will read your comment and move on and if it wasn't there they might have join. It just wasn't cool and uncalled for.

I don't want to even speak to you anymore really.

Good luck, you'll need it! I thought I was talking to an adult. Good thing that I found out early then. Your pet-project is making you super-defensive and clouds your judgment. I'm glad you don't want my help, I can't cooperate with people who have little to no backbone...

    Cheers.

Lol glad you feel that way. It's just your attitude man. I don't think me and you working together would work. Your right if you had your way with the changes you would do then it would be difficult for me to follow along and maybe difficult for others as well. It would turn into you doing everything maybe and it would be your project.

That first line you wrote "nervermind after looking at the code I lost all hope." That's what grab me wrong and set me off after I started to think about it.

No hard feelings at this point but its best if we do our own things.
