Foremost should have a mode where it generates the audit file (and thus finds the offsets for the files to be written out) but doesn't do any writing. It will be similar to the -C flag in fsck ("Don't execute, just show what would be done.")
I suggest calling it "audit file only" mode and using the -a flag.
