Debian opens larger than window
Audio Transcription software for Linux (Vlc) with a foot pedal

Hi, Rolf, me again. We've been running the debian version for about a week now and almost all works ok except...
Open fs2 in terminal returns warning...
Negative content width -17 (allocation 1, extents 9x9) while allocating gadget (node entry, owner GtkEntry)
... I have no idea if this is connected with the following.
Open an mp4 and window displays at pedefined size ok.
Open a .MOV and window expands to greater than maximum screen size. This can be resized using basic linux window resize but is frustrating. Does .MOV include preferred size which is not being over-ridden?
I do not have other formats to hand to try; they may do either of above.
Still have not had time to test manjaro version. Sorry.

Dave,
the simple answer is I don't know, I don't run that system and I can't remember the last time I saw a .Mov file
I do know that I don't set a maximum size, as I've never needed to. On Mint/Ubuntu, if you specify a size that will not fit on the screen, it refuses and fits it to the screen size.
I assume the .mov file is reporting to vlc a size bigger than the screen and for whatever reason, the system allows that. (Again. I don't know if you are running a multiscreen system or if that would affect it)
Obviously I could set a maximum size but I have no way of testing it and I'm unsure how that would effect those on multiscreen systems.
For now, all I can suggest, is that you try setting the VIDRESIZE option in the config file.
It's in the option tab of Tools-Configure. I'd suggest setting it to 2, which should attempt to reduce the video to half size.
Hi, Rolf. Not multiscreen.
I tried converting the .MOV to .MV4 and that gave the same result (ie over-size). Also converted to .MP4 and same, so it's something evil in (possibly only these) quicktime files.
Ace! And no significant effect on mp4/etc files.
Many thanks!
Dave,
in version 8.7.0 I've changed the VIDRESIZE options to allow +400%, +200%, +100%, +50%, No Resize, half size, one third, one quarter and one fifth.
I also check that the size change can never exceed the size of the terminal. So the only way that could happen, is if you have not specified a resize option i.e. No Resize.
The bad news, the date of the 8.7.0 release is unknown.
Thanks, Rolf, but no pressure. Your previous suggestion seems to have fixed the quicktime problem for now. :)
