From my experience having been involved with another project in the past, 
if it's something quick, you might get away with simply posting it here...

but,

bunch of things happening all at once, and something like this can tend to 
get burried under an avalanche of new (other things) showing-up on the 
mailing list.

...in summary, wait a little bit first, and if nothing happens, then post it 
on the wishlist where it's easier to find (and harder to forget)

The problem is usually lack of developer(s) and/or time and therefore 
attempts to do the best with their (limited) time/knowledge.
Priorities will happen.

If you think you can aid/help in some manner, these sort of things are 
appreciated, and it does not need to be "programming", it could be 
documentation, like adding a language, checking the documentation like the 
command-line "man fontforge"
or the html pages, or finding things that need updates, etc, etc, etc.  ;-)
