I notice that when I go in a folder that has many big
subfolder (many GBs) and then I close the folder, the
process FolderSizeSvc.exe continues to use cpu time
and memory, as it was still calculating the size of
the folders. It happened once that memory usage was
about 600 MB (I opened a folder with more than 5000
subfolders in it), slowing down my computer
performance. It would be nice that the service stops
using memory and CPU time when I'm no more in that
folder, or to limit memory usage to a size that a
user can choose and set.

Btw, it's a very nice and useful program.

Bye

PS is it possible that version 2.3 is slower than
version 2.2?

I also have this problem, and is the only fault I can find with this app.
Are the Devs still looking after this app??

Yes, I'd like to improve the memory usage, hopefully for the next version. However, I don't know when that will be.
I guess that is possible that 2.3 is slower than 2.2, but I don't know why and I haven't observed it. Do you have any benchmarks?

    Glad you like the program!

granted solving this may be a hard problem, a suggested work around that may be easier is how do i restart foldersizesvc? that is to say, is it possible without restarting the entire os? after forcing the process to stop with ctrl-alt-del, i get back my precious silence and normal speed, i can't restart it.

I know it's two years since active dev., but,
my problem, which i think is this, is that it just keeps processing for minutes and keeps going afterwards. cpu just constantly grinding away, at nothing, it's like i browsed a trap folder of doom or something. computer making churning noises. i've set my entire folder scheme to use foldersize instead. but when i'm forced to kill the process to reclaim silence and power.
