I've been meaning to send in some comments about 0.9.4, so I'll put in my two cents here: Overall, it's a huge improvement in a WM that was already absolutely terrific. Don't take the criticisms below as being too negative - I've just been trying to keep track of where I've had troubles, so that they can get fixed. - The tabs in the titlebar are *terrific*. I love 'em, and have had absolutely no problems using them. - The ability to get all windows from all workspaces in the toolbar is really great. Style updates often don't show on the icons in the taskbar until you force a redraw by obscuring them, or switching workspaces. - The transparency on menus is neat, but still a bit glitchy. I've noticed that for some tiled pixmap backgronds, the transparency only gets the pixmap for the tile in the upper left corner. - There is a very serious bug in sloppy focus. When a transient dialog is popped up, there is a flicker of focus between the formerly focussed window and the dialog. In some cases (dialogs in galeon, for example), it flickers back and forth a dozen times or so, and then stabilizes. In others, (e.g., OpenOffice) it flickers forever - and fouls up X so much that the only way to fix it is to telnet in from another machine, and kill X. (You have to do it from another machine - even the control-alt-backspace to kill X doesn't work.) - The pixmap theme support is very nice. There's something really wierd which happens intermittently: the pixmap buttons sometimes split, and you get 4 quarter-size copies of the pixmap instead of one proper sized. It still works fine - just looks funny. But overall, it's great. - The speed is wonderful - the new eyecandy doesn't seem to have had much impact on the speed or memory footprint. -Mark -- Mark Craig Chu-Carroll, IBM T.J.
