Since the last report, sampling team has done the following:
Chet Gnegy (project 5 only):
Fixed looping code in Sampler project
Added attributes restrictions to the Performance project
Completed Andy's work on adding drums to Performance
Made a couple instruments and fixed spec files for previous instruments.
Made 4 more instruments
Andy Biar:
Sorted and normalized mine and Rutwik's recordings
Added seven instruments
Added drum capabilities to the drums layout
Wrote the design doc
Converted the sample library into 16 bit mono and updated spec files accordingly
Jiuqiang Tang:
Rutwik Parikh:
Recorded several instruments with Andy (Learned recordings and used various objects to make interesting sounds)
Added some sound effects (birds, thunder, etc. which could potentially be used)
Wrote the initial design doc with the instruments that we had at an earlier stage.
Worked with jiuqiang and Chet's sample splitter to split samples with 36 pitches into individual files.

** These instruments are tagged with a 1.0 at the end of their filenames to indicate that they will not work in the system, as their naming conventions are inconsistent with the project goal. We had some formatting issues with the script that Chet wrote, which we are still resolving. Things should be fixed by the system test on Tuesday, as well as the addition of the necessary text files for the sample player. In the meantime, I thought we should post the sounds so that Roger can listen and give feedback.
Planned Changes Before 3/27:
- Get all the naming conventions and text files right
- Change the WineGlass Samples to a higher range. At present I think they sound too similar to the TuningHammers samples, even though the sound sources are completely different.
- Add more sounds to the MetalDrums instrument
Each instrument comes in a directory with 36 different pitches (WAV files for now, but we will be moving to mp3 to save space once the Sample Player group gets the mp3 plugin working) and a text file containing the attributes of the instrument. The plan is for this text file to also contain the begin and end times of the sustain portion of the sample in order to implement loops for long sounds, but this decision was made too close to the Thursday deadline to be implemented yet.
We will be including some more electronic instruments by tomorrow and also include acoustic instruments through recording after spring break.
Work breakdown:
Chet designed the directory format for the instruments, wrote a script which outputs samples from a single track in a DAW to individual pitch files according to the naming convention, and created several instruments. Added Loop times for Sampler Team.
Andy met with the sample player group, informing them of the directory structure of the samples and the team desire to switch to mp3s, discussing the possibility of the sample player implementing real-time processing and the implementation issues surrounding the idea of organizing the samples by attribute.
Rutwik and Jiuquiang will add more electronic sounds by tomorrow and Andy, Rutwik and Jinquiang will record additional instruments, mostly obscure percussion sounds according to our most recent meeting, during and after the spring break.
