Pleased to announce the first release of the open source version of Flightlog that utilises the facilities of the Free Cobol compiler GnuCOBOL available on SF as gnucobol at :

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucobol/

Small point, to post on the Forums you must be registered on SF - only takes a minute or two.

    Enjoy

Some improvements, mostly bug fixed (#001, 002 that are now closed) Manual improvements with new sections or chapters.

2.01.44 now available with updated manual, readme, scripts etc.

All in the csv code area - I have updated to the files areas as well.

    More updates?

    1. The manual still needs more work.
    2. Looking at increasing the Airfield names from 20 to 36 characters.
    3. Have made some changes to the txt files of airfields just need to make a decision on creating a master airfield file with the .txt files having created a program to import the txt files.

No all all sure about this as it is time consuming.

Also is an alternative flight log report replacing the Airfield ICAO codes with names but will make the print lines even longer even if I only use 1 entry each for day and nite instead of the current 4.

As a PPL and a commercial pilot I have almost always used the codes along with the name (for the first visit) in my paper log books and no one at the CAA or FAA has ever made a comment but there again it has been very rare to to be asked to do so.

V2.02.00 will be release in the next day or so, just requires updates to the manual which still looks a bit of a mess.

This introduces so minor but useful changes as from Changelog :

Coding to change afld name from 20 - 36 chars
Change Afld entry option K to support changed length.
Change Afld entry during Flight data entry/amend.

    Feature:

    1. Tables for EBCDIC to ASCII updated for redefines, code to deal with EBCDIC data.
This is processed subject to setting of record 3 field 2, set to E instead of space or A.
The problem will be to find data to test it with.
      Marked TODO (7) as done.

    Feature 2 - Aircraft report for options C, D, 3 & 4, did not do so, for C or 3

    1. Removed the airfield sort but kept the 'not print unused airfields' facility as sort by date just made it hard to read anyway.

    2. Experiment for using airfield names in place of ICAO codes in flight log reports.
and marking TODO (2) as now done - at least for now.
These changes have not been merged with the Total forwards etc nor the monthly totals as these still show counts for P1, P2/3 day and night where options 3 & 4 only give one flight for day and one for night with Capacity indicating what the figure is - just running out of print width.

Will look at this if users want this facility - see Bug fixes:

Also, here amended prtdpf.sh as testing shows it fits on a A4 page and should on Letter format.

This facility uses HIDDEN menu options 3 & 4 for C & D respectively, so just select 3 in place of C and 4 in place of option D.

Bug fixed - Carried totals not happening, also B/F totals needed extra blank line after.
Bug - Loading airfields from file does not set last-flight, so analysis will have
valid data if a flight was amended by changing the Airfield.

Started creating static binaries / executables with a small sizing (2.1 Mb) starting for Linux 64 bit, so you will not need to install the Cobol compiler to use Flightlog.
This needs testing on a spare Linux system to confirm it works.

Then to try and create the same for Windows, as building the compiler on that is a pain.

New TODO added, but may not do anything with it - subject to requests:

Consider re-introducing during data entry, day and night landings for the T & G flights, but there again it should be specified in Remarks, so is it really needed for the 90 Day CoE as it shows number of flights both for day and night ?
Is it a CAA / FAA requirement ?

The problem with it, is that it is not used for commercial or military aircrew.

    Opinions ?

2.02.04 has been released as a zip archive.

Change includes updated documentation and bug, feature fixes or improvements.
This release clears all known bugs and hopefully cleans up the manual..

2.02.05B has been released as a zip archive along with updated files in the code repository.

This is a very minor update to : prtpdf.sh (as a copy of prtpdf), comp-flightlog.sh to fix an error in the program name being compiled and Changelog to record the later..

This was the result of testing with the latest version of the GnuCobol compiler as at v3.2 dev-0.
that was downloaded from the code base today.

2.02.05C has been released as a zip file along with updated manual.

This only updates the manual with some clean ups, changes of detail in menu descriptions, inclusion of hidden menu options 3 & 4 acting similar as C & D but with airfield names printed instead of the ICAO codes.

This is for testing to see if users prefer it is way but it causes the page width to be longer and therefore needs the font size specified in prtpdf.sh to be reduced if needed.

2.02.07 has been released fixing bug #005.

2.02.08 has been released and fixes a bug with menu options 3 or 4 when monthly totals are produced junk text from the previous flight remarks can appear if long enough.
Manual has been updatd to provide additional information regarding these two hidden menu options in regard to the monthy and start and end of page totals provide a full breakdown of flights where as the flights report line have been reduced to keep on a A4 and Letter format page by only showing times of day, night, IFR, multi etc.

2.02.11 has been released to fix bugs in program (See Changelog for details) and updated manual.

  • Vincent (Bryan) Coen

2.02.12 is being released to provide support to give running totals after each month's figures to provide additional support when looking for errors in the totals, compared to any paper log books.
It will also create a very small extra file that will hold the content of the user's name and any other detail entered before producing the report and this can be updated on the next run etc and yes I got bored re-entering such during some testing, when trying to find why the totals did not match a log book and yes, I have a lot of them (log books I mean).

It might take a day or so before this updates gets on the SF site as there is a change I want to make to the code and then test it...
