Simon, you are replying to yourself. Now at three levels deep. Please find
a DSP discussion group and/or Amateur Radio Digital Modes discussion group
(WSJT fans? TAPR? QEX online?) to take up your questions and investigations.

Please do not continue to pester the developers to help you design a
communications system. Radio propagation and optimal modulation for
ionospheric radio communication are topics well beyond building and using
fldigi.
