This causes Firestarter to load later in the >bootup sequence. On my system /etc/rc3.d/ contains S20firestarter, but no reference to network. Firestarter is also present in rc2.d rc4.d and rc5.d I do have S35networking in /etc/rc0.d/ & in /etc/rc6.d/ also S47network-status in rcS.d I don't have S??network anywhere. I decided S35 networking was probably the file I was after so as root I went home:/home/al-anna# update-rc.d firestarter defaults 36 which generated the message System startup links for /etc/init.d/firestarter already exist. home:/home/al-anna# Oddly enough I seem to have achieved something; if I power off and then reboot, I have outgoing access so long as I haven't turned off the mains power to the modem and pc (3 times) however if I do turn off the mains power to the modem and the computer, when I power on again outgoing access is blocked until I stop and restart the firewall (2 times). Before it didn't matter if I left the mains power on - powering off the computer with the button on the front or autopower off resulted in outgoing access block regardless of my leaving the mains power and modem on. Also the symlink for firestarter is still S20firestarter - I don't know if it's meant to have changed. I know xandros run levels are oddly setup - the default run level for xwindows is said to be 2 (by the user forum), I'll pester xandros some more about how to change startup order. Meanwhile if you have any other suggestions I'd be happy to try them, either way, thanks for your help to date, Anna ____________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
