I would guess that the init scripts has slightly changed in FC9, I would recommend you take a look at one of the other init scripts, look how it handles restart, rewrite the firestarter init script to handle the reset in the same way and then post the working patch on the maillist. For your second problem at the starting of firestarter, this has to do with some feature in iptables has changed, to debug this, you should include some echo lines into the script (on in the middle, if the echo comes before the error, then the fault is in the second half), you keep on doing the adding/removing of echo's until you found the line causing the message and then post that line here, and we try to figure out how to fix this (earlier most of such faults been when a feature has become unneeded).
