Hi all, I'm running Firestarter-0.9.9b3.2-1 on a FC2 box. The FC2 box is a gateway/mail server/game server. (I've got a feeling it's not recommended to have extra servers on a gateway machine, but times are hard and all. :)) I just have my workstation (Slackware 10) connected into the FC2 box, like so : slackbox ---> FC2 box (eth1) ---> (eth0) ---> cable modem ---> Internet This configuration works just fine. I was wondering if there were any UT2003/4 server admins out there running a dedicated server on a Linux box, and were using Firestarter to protect it. I ask this as although I can see my server listed in the game's server browser on my workstation, it never has a ping reading. I've had another player check to see what kind of ping reading he gets for my server on the browser, and he reported back that it *was* showing a ping reading. I have no ICMP filtering set, so to my mind, I should be getting a ping reading from my workstation, running the game client shouldn't I ? The game in question (UT2004) has a specific LAN browser too, and my server doesn't show up in that. However, if I manually add the private network address of the FC2 box, it pops up and I can store it in the game. This was the case whether or not 'Block Broadcast Traffic' was set or disabled. At least, for the time that I monitored it. (If that is indeed relevant.) I don't have any IPTables scripts running on my workstation by the way. I'm also interested in finding out what ports people would set up to be open in Firestarter, for this game in particular. I have a list of the ports, but at the moment, cannot check to see if an Internet player can join, as there simply aren't that many people on the game at the moment. For those interested, here's the list of ports I've allowed in POLICY : SMTP 25 Everyone Unreal 7777 Everyone Unreal 7778 Everyone Unreal 7787 Everyone Unreal 28900 Everyone Unreal 28901 Everyone Unreal 28902 Everyone By the way, could I specify a *port* range here ? I've tried the following and it didn't throw up any errors, but at the moment, I can't tell if it's working or not. e.g. Unreal 28900:28902 Everyone I have come to the conclusion though that I don't need to *forward* any ports, as the game server is on the same box that Firestarter is. Is this right ? I mean I'm not forwarding port 25, and my mail server works great. Sorry for such a long post. I just wanted to make sure I included enough info. The version of Firestarter that I'm using is excellent. I love the layout. The status page is excellent, and the Active Connections. I have only seen one problem aesthetically, and that's the typo at the bottom of the POLICY tab, 'Firwall Port'. Thanks for your time, and for reading this massive post, and also for any information anyone might have. Kind regards, Pete. |
