I have test also  .ODC  system, but without success, i can't' create a new 
.odc files
Actually, the only possible workaround is create an mdb file and link table 
to Firebird server
Word7Excel must refer to mdb file to read data
But 'directly' from Word/Excel to Firebird, via odbc driver, is not possible
Word/Excel 2003 and 2007 version are been tested
