Dunno too much about the "history", but both are very definitely 
active.  Dumb answer is WNet is Windows Named Pipes NO[i]S[y] protocol 
(materialising as "NetBeui"), while XNet is the virtual network subsystem 
where the Firebird 2 local protocol is implemented.

Expect so, if Vulcan intends to support Windows networking in all its glory.
