For true backward compatibility, another firebird.conf setting should be
required in conjunction with your change:

	RestrictDatabaseDir =3D 0  (Boolean)

By default there should be no restriction on the database path.  To
restrict path by default would be an ***incredible annoyance*** for all
existing installs.

Also, since your default value is "/", would the system treat the
following connection string "server:c:\Database\MyDatabase.fdb" as
valid??
