> The IBX open source project is hosted by Borland and commanded by a Team = > B member. So far, no answers have been forthcoming (despite months of qu= > estions) as to whether IBX will ever rise up to meet Firebird enhancement= > s. The TeamB member said he would do nothing to support Firebird without mincing any words about it. IBX will remain true to InterBase and if Firebird maintains a similarity with the existing API then the two should still get along. But, anything new and different added to Firebird will not be supported in IBX. I would also be concerned about IBX tailoring itself to features in InterBase in a way that will make it unable to work with Firebird. Someone will inevitably have to fork IBX in order to keep the two getting along and considering the alternatives that would be a foolish endeavor. The biggest disadvantage about IBO is I don't have the port to Kylix finished yet. I've had some heavy deadlines with my day job and family situations which have prevented me from spending the concerted time necessary to accomplish this. I am determined to get it done and have someone contracted to work on it. Other than this, IBO should be the most versatile and operable component set to work with if you like to not be constrained by your component set to work a specific way. IBO is designed to allow flexibility to use the full range of dataset operations in as efficient a manner as possible. Regards, Jason Wharton CPS - Mesa AZ http://www.ibobjects.com |
