Dmitry, > I don't know what to say, if somebody can break current functionality=20 > and does not care about consequences. This is bad, very bad. I think that it is unfair to suggest that people are working without regard to consequences! Accidents and mistakes happen -- the fact that there are many ports/OS supported by the engine means that the unforceen problems can occur. The current state of the TCS suite also means that some situation are falling through the cracks, as we proceed the list of test will be expanded and thus we will catch more problems. > I suggest every person who make changes to repeat compilation > process with currently compiled build. And only THAN post changes > to FB cvs. This step, in addition to running a full cycle of the TCS suite would be the goal for all changes -- this is a model adopted by a number of OS projects. =20 Other project have also significanly restricted the commit rights to CVS and have created the role of committer within the project membership. At the moment I don't think that we need or have the volunteer resources available. We are working in that direction, however, given the state of the TCS suite this is not always possible. > p.s. people, are we going to release?=20 Not sure what exactly you are referring to hear, but I'll try anyways. If you mean, are we working on a v1.0 release> Yes, but at the moment the only person who is committed to that task is Mark O -- but he has been tied up on other projects. I'm sure that he would some/*any* assistance that community/project members could contribute towards the release. To date no-one has really stepped up to volunteer. Helen Borrie and I are working on various aspects of the release docs, but the actual builds are outside of our expertise. Are we going to release with such an obvious problem, No. > Or we will wait until Borland will release 6.5 and=20 > every user will move to it? I hope you are joking here. > If nobody cares, and want cash or profit for his work, what=20 > we are doing here? WOA! None of the work done to-date has been motivated by a profit motive. Accordingly, it is *very* unfair to suggest that motive. > Right now one russian developer have made 5 times much new features > to the engine, making FB work faster and customisable. He's doing > this when sourceforge.net/projects/firebird starting to produce > new bugs. Is this right? I think no. Is this a hypotetical situation or a real one? If real, then there is a licensing concern, IPL required that the code be publicly available. Additionally, there is the question: Why isn't that developer joining the project and contributing here -- he would seem to be just the type of member we are looking for? Sean |
