Hi, I was experimenting with the firebird odbc driver. There is an option under transactions for "read (default write)?" What is this for and how does it work? I don't want to have transactions for reads but for inserts, updates and deletes. Is it ok to do this? I am using Access 2010 along with the odbc driver on windows 7 prof. Thanks Heine |

Hello all! Please somebody help me with installing ODBC driver on CcentOS linux. I need it to make Sphinx work. I followed Marius Popa's instructions, from FB main site: http://www.firebirdnews.org/howto-install-firebird-odbc-driver-for-unixodbc-from-source/ First i installed firebird-superserver, gcc-c++ and unixodbc packets...no problem here. But when compiling the ODBC driver i get this error: [root@pali2 Gcc.lin]# make -f makefile.linux../makefile.environ:6: ARCH is x86_64../makefile.environ:21: ODBCMANAGER is unixODBC in /usr/lib64../makefile.environ:50: FBINCDIR is /usr/lib64/firebird/include../makefile.environ:56: FBLIBDIR is /usr/lib64/firebird/libmkdir: cannot create directory ‘Release_x86_64’: File existsmake: [createdirs] Error 1 (ignored)mkdir: cannot create directory ‘Release_x86_64/obj’: File existsmake: [createdirs] Error 1 (ignored)g++ -w -D_REENTRANT -D_PTHREADS -DEXTERNAL -DunixODBC -I/usr/include -I/usr/lib64/firebird/include -I/include -I/usr/lib64/firebird/include -fPIC -m64 -DNDEBUG -c ../../IscDbc/Attachment.cpp -o Release_x86_64/obj/Attachment.oIn file included from ../../IscDbc/Attachment.cpp:35:0:../../IscDbc/IscDbc.h:33:19: fatal error: ibase.h: No such file or directory #include <ibase.h> ^compilation terminated.make: *** [Release_x86_64/obj/Attachment.o] Error 1 Then i tried another way: I downloaded the ready-to-run version ODBC driver, from FB main site: | November 26, 2014 | OdbcFb-LIB-2.0.3.154.i686.gz | 1.0 MB | Linux x86 Library | I unzipped and copied it to /usr/lib/firebird/libOdbcFb.so I also made 2 another copies because the provided odbc config referred to libOdbcJdbc.so and libOdbcJdbcS.so files, and i had none of them. I guess the compiler should create them. (Note: First i tried with symlinks, but not working i created real copies. But also not working.) Here are odbc configs: [root@pali2 Gcc.lin]# cat /etc/odbcinst.ini [Firebird]Description = Firebird ODBC DriverDriver = /usr/lib/firebird/libOdbcFb.soSetup = /usr/lib/firebird/libOdbcJdbcS.soThreading = 1FileUsage = 1CPTimeout =CPReuse = [root@pali2 Gcc.lin]# cat /etc/odbc.ini[sample]Description = FirebirdDriver = FirebirdDbname = localhost:/data/sample.fdbUser = SYSDBAPassword = masterkeyRole =CharacterSet = UTF8ReadOnly = NoNoWait = No When trying to connect i get this error: [root@pali2 Gcc.lin]# isql -v sample[01000][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open lib '/usr/lib/firebird/libOdbcJdbc.so' : file not found[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect The /usr/lib/firebird/libOdbcJdbc.so file DOES EXIST.On a forum i read that someone had the same issue and installing libstdc++ solved the problem. But i had it installed before: [root@pali2 Gcc.lin]# rpm -qa | grep libstdc++libstdc++-4.8.5-4.el7.x86_64libstdc++-devel-4.8.5-4.el7.x86_64 Here is my system's architecture: [root@pali2 Gcc.lin]# uname -aLinux pali2 3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Nov 19 22:10:57 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Please help me! Hello @ll, I have update from 2.0.0 to 2.5.5 and after then, the linked Tables and Queries in Microsoft Access are very slow, only the first time I get the Data quickly. Both ODBC Driver are 32 Bit and used on several Windows operating systems. With the old Version I get the data quick every time I open the query and Formular. Is there a little Bug in the actual Version implanted? ;) Best regards. Olaf |

Hi there, Can you please tell me if it is possible to use Firebird's ODBC Driver for connecting from Windows remotely to Firebird instance on Mac, and if so what would the settings be ? I intend to create some data extracts that run on a Windows machine where the ODBC Driver is installed (Windows Server 2012 R2 64 bit) to consolidate data from a few Firebird 2.1 databases on a few Mac machines. I've tried connection string in the following format without success (error message: Open database '<connection string>' failed). I've tried with and without the port number. <IP Address>/3050:/Users/<Actual File Path>/<Database File>.fdb I've tested the same connection string as above from a FlameRobin application on the same Windows server and it is able to remote connect successfully to the Firebird on Mac, browse tables, etc. Thanks, Ferry |

Hello, We are using the Firebird ODBC driver on Linux, storing DSN parameters in the odbc.ini file. We are currently storing the database password in clear text in the odbc.ini file, and are facing a requirement to encrypt this password. Does the Firebird ODBC driver support use of encrypted passwords on Linux? If so, how would we go about encrypting the password? Thank you, Liz Watson |

Hello, I'm faced with a following problem: I have a table MyTable with a BLOB SUB_TYPE 1 column MyBlob. Insert or update statement with value works well: INSERT INTO MyTable (MyBlob) VALUES ('') /* results to an empty string in MyBlob field */ Passing an empty string as parameter causes the problem: INSERT INTO MyTable (MyBlob) VALUES (?pcMyString) /* MyBlob field is null when pcMyString==''*/ If pcMyString is not empty the previous SQL statement works well and MyBlob field contains string from pcMyString parameter. Similar SQL statement with char or varchar field is ok for both passing value and passing parameter. The problem is with BLOB field only. Something seems to be wrong with parameter binding. Is there a way how to get rid of this annoying thing? My environment is Win7 64bit, Firebird_ODBC_2.0.3.154_Win32 (yes, 32-bit because of 32-bit application), Visual Foxpro 7.0 SP1. I've already discussed the problem in the Czech Visual Foxpro developers forum. Other members have proved the problem. Thank you for your help. MirekK |

it is an approach that I try to dissolve the problem somehow Von: Jorge Andrés Brugger [mailto:li...@da...] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 1. April 2015 13:51 An: fir...@li... Betreff: Re: [Firebird-odbc-devel] Firebird and MS Access Olaf: First of all, please go to http://www.comicsanscriminal.com/ ;) Then, why do you think your issue is related with ODBC driver? Regards El 01/04/2015 06:31 a.m., Olaf Kluge escribió: Hello @ll, I have already a big Problem with this combination, msaccess (all versions) and firebird 2 (testet with 2, 2.1, 2.5) and the actually odbc driver. First the constellation: Table a Primary Key year and number, so 2015 1, 2015 2, unique with main data for orders, one field is the number of the supplier, so 1 = supplier a from Germany, 2 is supplier b And there is a table 2 Foreign key Year and Number to Table 1, ID primary key and unique. There can be some more than 1 positions for every order, 1 to n relation. I have already tried some things, so I have create the number not with (select max(nr)+1) but now with a generator. The Problem: If the last order has the same supplier-id like the new created, MS Access shows me in some cases the Orderpositions in the subform (table 2) from the order before (with the same supplier-id).. And this at the point of refresh. So there is a new position createt, I have now three (if the order before have had 2), If I delete the order positions, I delete all positions, already the 2 from the order before. Is there a workaround to solve this issue? In Access there is a main form with a subform, connectet from year and number to year and number. Thanks a lot Best regards. Olaf: First of all, please go to http://www.comicsanscriminal.com/ ;) Then, why do you think your issue is related with ODBC driver? Hello @ll, I have already a big Problem with this combination, msaccess (all versions) and firebird 2 (testet with 2, 2.1, 2.5) and the actually odbc driver. First the constellation: Table a Primary Key year and number, so 2015 1, 2015 2, unique with main data for orders, one field is the number of the supplier, so 1 = supplier a from Germany, 2 is supplier b. And there is a table 2 Foreign key Year and Number to Table 1, ID primary key and unique. Olaf |

Hello, We are looking for advice on building the Firebird ODBC driver for 64 bit RHEL6 Linux. I've seen several older postings that refer to some of the issues we are seeing, but I have not seen a write up that nails the solution. We started off by downloading the latest code for the ODBC driver. cvs -d:pserver:ano...@fi...:/cvsroot/firebird login cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@fi...:/cvsroot/firebird co OdbcJdbc Then built it: cd OdbcJdbc/Builds/Gcc.lin make -f makefile.linux This produces an ODBC driver that works most of the time. It aborts with a SIGSEGV when executing a SQL statement that uses parameters that have been set up with SQLBindParameter(). I'm pretty sure this has something to do with a type that ought to be 32 bit or 64 bit or vice versa not being defined correctly. We've tried building with BUILD_REAL_64_BIT_MODE, and that has not helped. We did have success using the prebuilt ODBC driver in our test environment, by creating a link for libodbcinst.so.1. While we cannot use this solution in production, it has confirmed our theory that we are not building the driver correctly. Thank you for any suggestions you may be able to offer. Best regards, Liz Watson |

I'm using version 2.0.3.154 of the Firebird Driver On 32-Bit systems, we have a connection string formatted as 'IP Address:D:\Fishbowl Directory\database\data\Database.FDB". This connection string works perfectly. On 64-Bit systems: * if I use the 64-Bit Driver and the 64-Bit ODBC (C:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe) - the connection works great. * If I use the 32-Bit Driver and the 32-Bit ODBC (C:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe) - I get an error that "Open database 'connection string' failed" I MUST use a 32-Bit connection on the 64-Bit computers because I'm using an integration between Fishbowl and UPS WorldShip. UPS WorldShip will only recognize 32-bit ODBC connections. Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chuck |

I wanted to build the Firebird ODBC driver for 64-bit Fedora 20 Linux (the precompiled binary didn't work for me due to a requirement for a library missing on my system: libodbcinst.so.1), but in the 2.0.3 release, the source code file is listed as "OdbcJdbc-src-2.0.3.154.tar.gz" whereas in 2.0.2 and 2.0.1 the source code files were listed as "OdbcFb-Source-2.0.x.15x.gz." I could find no mention of such a change in the release notes. Why the change? Thanks in advance, Keith Laten Williams |

Jorge, It is a not priority improvement at this moment, but I can build special installers with this fix for a while. Thanks Alexander. The patched driver works with Win7 and Access 2013. I know it´s a MS Access issue, but there is any chance to integrate the "fix" someway in Firebird ODBC driver? Regards!
