What about the Firebird server...is it installed on the same pc?..or are you planning to use the embedded version? ________________________________ From: blueskyabove <chr...@ne...> To: fir...@li... Sent: Thu, 22 October, 2009 3:32:46 AM Subject: [Firebird-odbc-devel] Firebird ODBC and Access I have installed the Firebird ODBC driver on an XP SP2 pc. When I try configure the link in the ODBC Data Source Administrator and test the connection to the database I get the following error message: Open database 'C:\Program Files\OpenLM Server\db\OPENLM_DB.GDB' failed I browsed to the database to set up the database location on my hard drive so the database exists. Roman: Thanks for answering. I´ll try to be more specific: - To use a ODBC DSN, you need: 1) The ODBC driver registered (and the fbclient, etc) 2) The DSN (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Data Sources (ODBC)/System DSN **** For (1) the following is created at registry: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\Firebird/InterBase(r) driver] "UsageCount"=dword:00000001 "Driver"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\OdbcFb.dll" "Setup"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\OdbcFb.dll" "FileExtns"="*.fdb,*.gdb" "APILevel"="1" "ConnectFunctions"="YYY" "FileUsage"="0" "DriverODBCVer"="03.51" "SQLLevel"="1" **** For (2) registry is filled with: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\MyDSN] "Description"="Test" "CharacterSet"="ISO8859_1" "ReadOnly"="N" "NoWait"="N" "Dialect"="3" "QuotedIdentifier"="N" "SensitiveIdentifier"="N" "AutoQuotedIdentifier"="N" "UseSchemaIdentifier"="0" "LockTimeoutWaitTransactions"="" "Driver"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\OdbcFb.dll" "SafeThread"="Y" "Dbname"="192.168.1.59:C:\\fbdata\\TEST.FDB" "Client"="" "User"="SYSDBA" "Role"="" "JdbcDriver"="IscDbc" "Password"="<encrypted-password-string>" My question is at (2), specifically the value "Driver"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\OdbcFb.dll". Thay value, is used or not? (at the C++ driver code, I'm not a C programmer and I wasn't able to check if it is used somewere). Regards! Jorge, Read the "Driver" value from "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\Firebird/InterBase(r) driver" first Then use this value when creating your own DSN inside your app. HTH Alan ""Jorge Andrés Brugger"" <li...@da...> wrote in message news:4AE...@da...... > Roman, I'm not talking about the driver install, but the DSN data. That value is used by ODBC manager when you connect to the database and provide described DSN. ODBC manager find necessary library. Or I still don't understand your question. You program can work in other way. I can't tell you. Maybe your driver is self-registered in installer? You can start debug ODBC and look into messages. What driver is really used. -- Roman Jorge Andrés Brugger wrote: > Roman, I'm not talking about the driver install, but the DSN data. Roman, I'm not talking about the driver install, but the DSN data. If you install the driver, and then create a ODBC DSN (for example, "TestDSN"), a new registry key is created at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\TestDSN Inside that key, there is a value named "Driver", containing "C:\WINDOWS\system32\OdbcFb.dll" (if DSN was created in a WinXP box, change "windows" by "winnt" if using win2000). How is that value used by the driver? (I create the DSN inside my app installer, by adding the necessary registry entries, but today I've realized I was creating always "Driver=C:\WINDOWS\system32\OdbcFb.dll" but there is no such path on win2000). The "driver" value at the DSN saved into registry (pointing generally to C:\WINDOWS\system32\OdbcFb32.dll), how and where it´s used? (I´ve configured a Windows 2000 with that value - Win2000 doesnt get installed at \windows, but \winnt - ... however, driver seems to work anyway) Regards! -- Jorge Andrés Brugger Informática DASU - Obra Social del Personal de la Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, Argentina Teléfono (0297) 446-4444 int. 103 Correo electrónico: jbr...@da... Hi, all. See following code: int main() { SQLHENV envH; SQLHDBC dbcH; SQLHSTMT statH; SQLRETURN ret; SQLCHAR rstr[1024]; int a1[100]; int i; int rstrl; SQLAllocHandle(SQL_HANDLE_ENV,SQL_NULL_HANDLE, &envH); SQLSetEnvAttr(envH, SQL_ATTR_ODBC_VERSION, (void *) SQL_OV_ODBC2, 0); SQLAllocHandle(SQL_HANDLE_DBC,envH,&dbcH); ret=SQLDriverConnect(dbcH, NULL, "DSN=mytest;", SQL_NTS, rstr, sizeof(rstr), &rstrl, SQL_DRIVER_COMPLETE); if (!SQL_SUCCEEDED(ret)) { extract_error("SQLDriverConnect", dbcH, SQL_HANDLE_DBC); SQLFreeHandle(SQL_HANDLE_DBC,statH); SQLFreeHandle(SQL_HANDLE_ENV,envH); return 1; } SQLAllocHandle(SQL_HANDLE_STMT,dbcH,&statH); ret=SQLExecDirect(statH,"select * from test1",SQL_NTS); if (!SQL_SUCCEEDED(ret)) { extract_error("SQLExecDirect", statH, SQL_HANDLE_STMT); return 1; } for (i=0;i<100;i++) a1[i]=i*10; SQLSetStmtAttr(statH,SQL_ATTR_ROW_ARRAY_SIZE,2,0); SQLBindCol(statH,1,SQL_C_SLONG,a1,sizeof(int),NULL); ret=SQLBulkOperations(statH,SQL_ADD); if (!SQL_SUCCEEDED(ret)) { extract_error("SQLBulkOperations", statH, SQL_HANDLE_STMT); return 1; } SQLFreeHandle(SQL_HANDLE_STMT,statH); SQLFreeHandle(SQL_HANDLE_DBC,dbcH); SQLFreeHandle(SQL_HANDLE_ENV,envH); return 0; } It executes ok, but I always have SQL_ERROR on SQLBulkOperations. What's wrong? Can't think of anything. Works fine on MySQL. extract_error - it's just a function that prints out error text, but when SQLBulkOperations returns SQL_ERROR, SQLGetDiagRec returns error too and I don't know why error keeps happening. Thanks. |

Hi, Does anyone know of a successful case of using Firebird ODBC with Microsoft IIS on Win2000, such that web traffic logs are written directly to a Firebird database? I tried. I got to the point of having no errors listed in the event viewer but did not get any data logged. I did not try on any machines with a later version of IIS. The problem might be particular to Win2000. I documented my steps here: http://webhub.com/dynhelp:alias::iislogodbcfirebirdsql As that did not work for us, we are working on a utility to import our .log files as a separate step, which is better in that it allows us to use more fields. Nonetheless, I was curious whether anyone had tried this, and whether there was some way of turning on a verbose log for the odbc driver, to look for clues when the client software reports nothing. 149 build works fine for me, but it´s unavailable at Firebird website. Maybe a 2.0 RC2 could be released, and deleted all obsolete things existing at http://firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=odbc? We don't need: - Version 2.0 Beta - Version 1.x Beta, Most Recent - Version 1.2 (1.2.00.0070 and 1.2.0.69, both tagged as 1.2.1 even when version in name is 1.2.0) Maintaining the site as is is just adding confusion to new visitors searching just an odbc driver. Hello, has anyone used JavaScript in PDF-Forms with the ODBC driver? I can?t retrieve any values from the database. This is my JavaScript code: console.show(); console.clear(); var aList = ADBC.getDataSourceList(); for (var i = 0; i < aList.length; i++) { console.println(aList[i].name); console.println(aList[i].description); } try { var sqlCon = ADBC.newConnection("db"); if (sqlCon == null) throw "Connection failed"; } catch(e) { console.println(e); } var stmt = sqlCon.newStatement(); stmt.execute("select g.gemeindename, g.gemeindehausnr, g.gemeindeplz, g.gemeindeort from gemeinde g"); stmt.nextRow(); var row = stmt.getRow(); console.println("Gemeindename: " + row.GEMEINDENAME.value); console.println("Gemeindehausnr: " + row.GEMEINDEHAUSNR.value); console.println("Gemeindeort: " + row.GEMEINDEORT.value); this.getField("gemeinde").value = row.GEMEINDENAME.value; this.getField("gemeindeshausnr").value = row.GEMEINDEHAUSNR.value; this.getField("gemeindeort").value = row.GEMEINDEORT.value; Thanks for your help, Mike |

Support InterBase 5.5 is way off our radar. You are welcome to check out the code and see if you can recompile it to work with IB 5.5 on SuSe linux. And if you need help I'm sure someone here will reply. We would even consider a patch if you wanted to contribute one. Paul -- Paul Reeves http://www.ibphoenix.com Specialists in Firebird support |

Hi, I have problem to use ODBC 64bit driver on Win XP 64. I used 2.0.0.148 version a tried this test: public void Test() { string cn = "DRIVER={Firebird/InterBase(r) driver};Dialect=3;PASSWORD=sysdba;User=sysdba;Database=database.fdb;ServerType=1"; using (OdbcConnection conn = new OdbcConnection(cn)) { conn.Open(); OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand(); cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandText = "select * from tbl_test"; using (OdbcDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (reader.Read()) { long id = reader.GetInt64(reader.GetOrdinal("ID")); string nazev = reader.GetString(reader.GetOrdinal("nazev")); string poznamka = "null"; if (!reader.IsDBNull(reader.GetOrdinal("poznamka"))) { poznamka = reader.GetString(reader.GetOrdinal("poznamka")); } } } } } But it throws exception when in column "poznamka" is null value: --------------------------- System.OverflowException: Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow. at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.GetData(Int32 i, SQL_C sqlctype, Int32 cb, Int32& cbActualOut) at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.internalGetString(Int32 i) at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.GetValue(Int32 i) at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.IsDBNull(Int32 i) at FbTest.Form1.Test() --------------------------- Could you advice me where is a problem? Is it a bug in Firebird ODBC driver or do I something wrong? (It works fine with 32bit driver on 32bit windows.) Thanks, Smoke |

Hello, Simon! Can you please dig the problem a bit deeper? What tool are you using with the x64 driver? What does the ODBC SQL trace look like? Maybe you can point to a function call where the driver gives wrong result? I'm having trouble using the newly released odbc 64 bit windows Firebird Driver. I'm trying to connect to a number of firebird databases (vers 1.5.4 on Windows 32 op sys). The client machine I'm using is running database software called Intersytsems Caché, but that's not relevant. The point is that it's using Miscorosft Windows Server 2003 R2 x64, service Pack 2. That means I have to use the newly released 2.00.00.148 odbc x64 driver (19 Nov 2008). (The client DLL I use is the fbclient.dll from Firebird-2.1.2.18118-0_x64 download) The problem; The connection is succesful when tested. However, the tables and views are not exposed. All you manage to see is "no schema". In order to debug this, I downloaded and installed the 32 bit odbc driver on to another windows box. This driver displays the schema as "null schema" and when selected you are able to see the views and tables correctly. It seems to definitely be a problem swith the 64 bit driver. Is there a patch ? -- Simon |

You might want to manually set it using the datasource admin tool and then extract all the HKLM entries and then adjust your installer. Note sure this will correct all your problems, but at least you use a more up to date client. Werner |

Did you copy it there? From the version string it is probably from InterBase 6.0, or perhaps an early version of Firebird 1.0. It is certainly a 32-bit library. Hi I donwload obdc source code to make a little change. I compilted with Dev-C++5 and I obtain "OdbcFB32.dll" How can I Tested? I'm using "OdbcFb v.RC1-2.0.0148" . I only found this dll in \windows\sytem32: IscDbc.dll OdbcFb.dll OdbcJdbc.dll OdbcJdbcSetup.dll I must replace "OdbcFb.dll" for "OdbcFB32.dll" (changing the name to "OdbcFb.dll") ? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm really very new in this stuff and sorry for my English. Thanks a lot Gabriel Centenari |

HI, I am developing an application using VS2008 on vista 64. I will be targeting 32 os when distributing. I have tried both the 32 and 64 bit version of the Firebird ODBC driver on my Vista64 OS. The 32 bit version is not even recognised while I try to run my application. When I use the 64 bit version the driver is recognised but a get the following error: ERROR [08004] [ODBC Firebird Driver]Unable to connect to data source: library 'gds32.dll' failed to load There is a gds32.dll file in the system32 folder (version 6.0.1.0) and also one in the sysWOW64 (version 6.3.5.13206) below is the connection string I am using: DRIVER=Firebird/InterBase(r) driver; DBNAME=MIRROR:C:\MT32\Data\MT32.IB; UID=SYSDBA; PWD=masterkey; this is a valid connection string as far as connecting to the target database is concerned as it works in an earlier version using a 32-bit development environment. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Kevin. |

I tried to attach the patch, however for some reason the "attach" did not work (was using Google Chrome at the time, I think). I have attached the patch here, however with some reservations: - this patch just makes SQL_C_BIT treatment as a TinyInt for output. This may work in Windows, because of BOOL == int, however I do not know if this is the general case. May be a better idea to have BOOL == char (and at least on little-endian systems will not really care). - the change would assume that only 1 or 0 can be inside the selection, however it will happily transfer 2,3,4 and so on (which is hardly a BIT). I did consider writing a "tinyIntAsBit" which would make 0 == 0 and non-zero == 1, however for our internal functions we did not need it so I ended up with this fairly dirty hack.
