Hi, Yiannis. I think so. I use the 2.7.7 version only .NET 2.0 and I have no problems. Thank you Jiri, v2.7.7 is the most recent version that requires only NET Framework 2.0? No call stack available, but I solved it by exiting a bit more gracefully, implementing IDisposable in the object holding the connection and within it closing and disposing the connection. So I am fine for now. /Martin |

Hello, I have a .NET 2.0 project and I want to use the firebird provider. Which one should I choose from the downloads page here: http://www.firebirdsql.org/en/net-provider/ ? I see a NETProvider-3.0.2.0-NET35.7z file but does this require NET 3.5 installed? |

You have to mark the property as store generated. It's not Firebird related, you have to do it in EF no matter what DB you use. -- Jiri {x2} Cincura (x2develop.com founder) http://blog.cincura.net/ | http://www.ID3renamer.com |

But that's a corner use case. I'd rather have some helpers to identify *where* the connections and/or transaction have been opened. Coincidentally, right now I'm trying to fix a bug in our code regarding zombies opened connections and whatever you add to API that help us find these would be great. Maybe I am thinking too much from the Java concept of DataSources and connection pools. There the connection pools (at least in application servers) are - usually - not maintained by a single application, but by the application server and applications are configured to access the datasource by its name and request a connection. Connections requested from the pool are still 'owned' by the connection pool and the connection pool can decide to forcefully revoke a connection from a misbehaving 'client' (or a 'client' which takes too long to complete a piece of work). Also if the administrator recycles/clears the connection pool this means that all connections from the pool (including those currently checked out) can/will be closed. >> fashion), being able to force all connections from the pool to close >> might >> be a great way to detect (or mitigate) this problem. > > Maybe it's wrongly stuck in my head. > why not to first close connections you're holding and then clean pools. Right? Right 100%, from my point of view. If - at any time during my application is executed - I don't have the information about which connections I have instantiated and which of them are probable open, then in any case I'd have a design flaw in my programming. Let's assume I don't have this specific flaw, then all I need is *one* method, could be static, to mark all open connections, decide whether to close them or not (maybe some asynchronous operation is at work...) and then to remove all closed connections from the pool. best regards, André Knappstein |

Hi, I have a wpf application, and when exiting I always get a debug output: A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.dll Firebird 2.5, Firebird Client 3.0.2.0, Runtime v4.0.30319 I havn't been able to track down a cause for this. Any clues? /Martin |

You could also see it from a different point: some part of your code is misbehaving (ie not releasing connections back to the pool in a timely fashion), being able to force all connections from the pool to close might be a great way to detect (or mitigate) this problem. How I'm thinking. The connections are normally in pool, when you're using some, it's not in pool (actually it's still in the pool's collection, but "marked as used") logically. When you're cleaning all pools you are cleaning connections that are pooled (in pool). Hence connections not in pool should be untouched. At least that's what I think. On the other hand, this a huge breaking change. Not sure it's worth changing it. :\ Also thinking from the other hand. If you have reference to some connection that's used and you'd like to close and clear all, why not to first close connections you're holding and then clean pools. Right? What's to reason to have method that would do it under your hands... -- Jiri {x2} Cincura (x2develop.com founder) http://blog.cincura.net/ | http://www.ID3renamer.com |

Because sometimes you don't know what database exactly you'll be running against. It's not needed to connect to it. OTOH what the provider should do? Fail? That will happen anyway. The 31 chars limit of identifier is currently also not enforced in provider. -- Jiri {x2} Cincura (x2develop.com founder) http://blog.cincura.net/ | http://www.ID3renamer.com |

I think is necessary to take care about 255 DDL metadata changes allowed per table. Hi *, is there an interest in Migrations provider (for EF) for Firebird? -- Jiri {x2} Cincura (x2develop.com founder) http://blog.cincura.net/ | http://www.ID3renamer.com |

Hello, I've found the solution. Since I'm using a Win7 x64 OS I have to put the lines in the machine.config at Framework64 folder. After that, I've just installed the NET4.0 version of the providet to avoid the CompilerServices exception. It works! Thank you. _______________________________ I'm free, I use GNU/Linux.
