Okay I think you were talking about the machine.config entry in system.data.DbProviderFactories: I have the following entry in it: <add name="FirebirdClient Data Provider" invariant="FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient" description=".NET Framework Data Provider for Firebird" type="FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.FirebirdClientFactory, FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient, Version=3.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3750abcc3150b00c"/> I have tried to replace this with the FbProviderServices like you said to do so in my app.config, but it didnt make a difference still the same error message. Cant get it running... I have cleared all debug folders from ddls, done a clean solution, replaced the dlls that gets installed from the .msi package under C:\Program Files (x86)\FirebirdClient with the once downloaded from there NETProvider-3.2.0.0-NET45_EF6.7z, also replace the dlls from the nuget package and still the same result. Also looked in C:\windows\assembly and there is no firebirdclient ddl registered. So currently I am kinda clueless, what to check next... do you have some hints? Or would you rather have a teamviewer session and have a look for yourself? > Date: Tue, 22 Oct 2013 12:00:33 +0200 > From: di...@ci... > To: fir...@li... > Subject: Re: [Firebird-net-provider] DbProviderServices > > On Tue, Oct 22, 2013 at 11:52 AM, Rand Random <ran...@ou...> wrote: > > I have the NETProvider-3.2.0.0.msi and DDEXProvider-3.0.0.0.msi installed, > > is it recommended to deinstall them and losing the feature of modeling the > > EDMX in VS? > > If you're using VS2013 and EF6 you need EF6 provider. I was asked by Jiri Cincura to write my question here on the list, so here am I now: (From here on its a copy from my initial issue on the tracker from firebird - notice that the link to the tracker doesnt work because the related issue got deleteb by Jiri) Key: DNET-525 URL: http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/DNET-525 Project: .NET Data provider Issue Type: Bug Components: ADO.NET Provider Affects Versions: 3.2.0.0 Environment: Win7 - EF 6 - .Net Provider 3.2.0.0 - Firbird 2.5 - Visual Studio 2013 Reporter: Rand Random Assignee: Jiri Cincura I am getting following error message: The 'Instance' member of the Entity Framework provider type 'FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.FirebirdClientFactory, FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient, Version=3.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3750abcc3150b00c' did not return an object that inherits from 'System.Data.Entity.Core.Common.DbProviderServices'. Entity Framework providers must inherit from this class and the 'Instance' member must return the singleton instance of the provider. This may be because the provider does not support Entity Framework 6 or later; see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=260882 for more information. I probably did something wrong but dont know what... I am currently trying to update my VS 2012 + EF 5 Solution to the latest VS 2013 and EF 6.0.0.1 Versions, everything went smoothly and I am able to build the solution. During the update I noticed that the .Net Provider is also availabe in a NuGet package, and got my latest version for EF 6 from there. (Yeah I noticed that there are 2 different NuGet packages and picked the one saying "Firebird ADO.NET Data provider (Entity Framework 6). When I tried to run the application a very simple linq query resulted to an exception telling me that the provider isnt configured in the app.config. So I extended the default config from <entityFramework> <defaultConnectionFactory type="System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.SqlConnectionFactory, EntityFramework" /> <providers> <provider invariantName="System.Data.SqlClient" type="System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices, EntityFramework.SqlServer" /> </providers> </entityFramework> to <entityFramework> <defaultConnectionFactory type="System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.SqlConnectionFactory, EntityFramework" /> <providers> <provider invariantName="System.Data.SqlClient" type="System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices, EntityFramework.SqlServer" /> <provider invariantName="FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient" type="FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.FirebirdClientFactory, FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient" /> </providers> </entityFramework> After this the excpetion was gone and a new one appeard - the one mentioned at the very top. So what am I doing wrong and how can I tell my solution to use the DLL for EF 6? |

-- This message is automatically generated by JIRA. - If you think it was sent incorrectly contact one of the administrators: http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/secure/Administrators.jspa - For more information on JIRA, see: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira |

It is a good thing to know that it should work :-) And yes: I have access to the database file, and it is being used concurrently by other application threads. I will continue to investigate the issue when I get back to the office in a few days. Thanks for your support. It's an FbException wrapping an IscException with the following message: I/O error during "CreateFile (open)" operation for file "C:\PROGRAMDATA\FOO\BAR.FIREBIRD" Error while trying to open file and if I watch what happens with ProcMon.exe, I see that there is an attempt to open the database file, which fails because of a sharing issue. What I find suspect, is the fact that calling FbBackup the first time seems to load fbembed.dll and various other related files; however, all these files have already been loaded previously. Should this work with the embedded server? Might I have an issue of DLL hell where two instances of the embedded server somehow get loaded? Pierre |

> You mean FbBackup? Ah, yes, sorry. The interface IDbServiceTools.Backup is not part of the .NET Provider, but part of one of our DB layers. We are calling FbBackup.Execute with just one path in BackupFiles, a ConnectionString which specifies the Embedded server type and as the Options, just 'IgnoreLimbo', verbose set to true and a callback set on the ServiceOutput event. Calling FbBackup.Execute throws the exception because of the sharing violation. Hello, We had been using successfully IDbServiceTools.Backup with the Embedded Firebird DLL. For some time now, and with no apparent reason (i.e. we cannot figure out what changed in our source control tracking system), the backup fails with a sharing violation, when the backup tries to open the database file. Has anything changed with respect to how the database file is opened by the .NET Provider? Or how the backup opens the file itself? What information could help me track the source of this issue? Environment: - .NET Provider 3.2.0.0 - Firebird SQL Server (Embedded) 2.5.2.26539 - .NET 4.0 - Windows x64 (7 or Server 2013) Pierre |
