Hello: > Is Cygwin also needed to use FirebirdNETProvider on Mono/Win32? No, you can use Nant (nant.sourceforge.net), you only need to modify the build file for use mono ( mcs ) instead of csc. -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

Dear All, I just started my next try to get the NetProvider running. I downloaded and installed newest Mono 0.25, works fine. I downloaded FirebirdNETProvider1.1-Alpha2.exe, which didn't help as it requires MSFT .NET I downlaoded FirebirdNETProvider1.1-Alpha2-Src.zip, and realized that it needed Cygwin to make. So my question is: Is Cygwin also needed to use FirebirdNETProvider on Mono/Win32? If this is not the case, can somebody volunteer a compiled FirebirdNETProvider1.1-Alpha2? Also it would be nice, if a correct link to the compiled dll be sent to the maintainer of http://go-mono.com/tutorial/html/en/adonet/dbfirebird.html, so that the quick start example there can be easily followed. I think the problem can be in: fnSetGridRows(dgObject, objSelCombo.SelectedItem.Value) fnTogglePaging(dgObject, objDataView.Count) But i don't know what this methods does. One thing, this code is bad: > Dim objDataAdapter As New > FbDataAdapter(strCommonQry, svrCommonConnection) > objDataAdapter.SelectCommand = New > FbCommand(strCommonQry, svrCommonConnection, myTxn) Make it as: Dim objDataAdapter As New FbDataAdapter(strCommonQry, svrCommonConnection) objDataAdapter.SelectCommand.Transaction = myTxn; Or as: Dim objSelectCommand as New FbCommand(strCommonQry, svrCommonConnection, myTxn) Dim objDataAdapter As New FbDataAdapter(objSelectCommand) -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

Hello, When I am trying to execute following query, it successfully executes through IBConsole "select * from English order by English.var DESC" But, when executed through ASP.Net & tried to use a data adapter, dataset, datatable, I get the following error : "variable is neither a DataColumn nor a DataRelation for table English." Only one row is displayed in the data grid. And above error msg I've trapped. Can anybody tell the solution. Thanx in advance for any help. Hi there, has anyone experience in porting a .NET application using MSSQL to Firebird? Are there any well-known restrictions with - Sub selects or derived tables, - Views, - Stored Procedures or - Batch queries (Commands returning results from multiple SELECT statements) Is the Guid (uniqueidentifier) supported? I would be happy, even with some quick yes/no anwers! Jens. |

Hello: As a result of a discussion in the firebird-devel list i have finally decided to add implicit transaction control for SELECT commands, preliminary version is committed into CVS, for brach of 1.1 version sources only, i'm going to try to make some testing and add NUnit tests today. -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

Hi, I am playing around with the .Net driver which works just fine. But I would like to mention that I have found an error in the example showing how to use the FbDataReader. The connection must be active before you can start a transaction. Regards Jan Jensen string mySelectQuery = "SELECT dept_no, departament FROM departament"; FbConnection myConnection = new FblConnection(myConnString); FbTransaction myTxn = myConnection.BeginTransaction(); FbCommand myCommand = new FbCommand(mySelectQuery, myConnection, myTxn); myConnection.Open(); //Error - move up! FbDataReader myReader; myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader(); // Always call Read before accessing data. while (myReader.Read()) { Console.WriteLine(myReader.GetInt32(0) + ", " + myReader.GetString(1)); } // always call Close when done reading. myReader.Close(); // Close the connection when done with it. myConnection.Close(); } |

Hello: > Where i can set transaction property RecVersion and NoWait? I can set > only Read commited. You can't set these values manually, instead you can use FbConnection.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel) or FbConnection.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel, string transactionName), the last only if you are working with Firebird 1.5, where each supported Isolation level is configured as: * isc_tpb_version3 * isc_tpb_write * isc_tpb_wait - IsolationLevel.Serializable: * isc_tpb_consistency - IsolationLevel.RepeatableRead: * isc_tpb_concurrency - IsolationLevel.ReadUncommitted: * isc_tpb_read_committed * isc_tpb_rec_version - IsolationLevel.ReadCommitted: * isc_tpb_read_committed * isc_tpb_no_rec_version -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

It may not be in conformance but maybe there should be a parameter in= the connection string to force a single connection even when the pooling = on the driver is set to ON. I would never have thought to or wanted to do a restore via the old O= DBC connection setup and I suppose the .NET driver has some left over log= ic assocated with this kind of connection Alan > -----Original Message----- > From: fir...@li... > [mailto:fir...@li...]On Behalf= Of > Alan McDonald > Sent: Monday, 30 June 2003 11:23 AM > To: Aitor G=F3mez Gonz=E1lez; Fir...@li...urcefor= ge.net > Subject: RE: [Firebird-net-provider] Overwrite database in use > > > Sorry if I misunderstood.. > I imagine that with connection pooling turned on, then there are ot= her > connections made by the driver at the time you make your single > connection. > With connection pooling turned on, there is also the timeout to > consider on > connection made, not used and expired... > > Alan > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Aitor G=F3mez Gonz=E1lez [mailto:ait...@gm...] > > Sent: Monday, 30 June 2003 9:13 AM > > To: 'Alan McDonald' > > Subject: RE: [Firebird-net-provider] Overwrite database in use > > > > > > Hi Alan, > > > > Thanks, I know that. Sorry if I misunderstood.. I imagine that with connection pooling turned on, then there are other connections made by the driver at the time you make your single connection. With connection pooling turned on, there is also the timeout to consider on connection made, not used and expired... you can't do a restore with more than one live connection. It's there to protect the database since a second connection means someone else is currently using the DB. You can backup with many connections but restoring is an amdin function carried out with only one connection. Hi Alan, Thanks, I know that. May be I didn't explain well enough my question. I have one and only one live connection. If I close this unique connection (myConnection.Close()) I should be able to delete the database file in use (myDatabase.fdb), but this works only when connection pooling is disabled. Should I understand connection (my unique connection) is not really closed when I call "myConnection.Close()" and connection pooling is enabled? Thanks for the feedback. Asp.net is enough new technology for me right now. After much thought, I decided to upgrade production box to Firebird anyway, and now my site is up and running. =20 Andy |

Hi, I'm trying to overwrite database in use for a "Restore database backup" feature in a program, using "gbak -RESTORE_DATABASE" command. My code is something like this: myConnection.Close(); DoRestoreDatabaseBackup(); myConnection.Open(); It works perfect with ConnectionPooling = false, but almost never when ConnectionPooling = true, even if "myConnection" is the only connection opened across the application. It's not a problem for me by now, I only need a connection, I'll work without ConnectionPooling, but I'd like to know how could I do it in case of working with more than one connection. Thanks in advance, Aitor. |

Huumm at this moment no for connection to the firebird server the provider is sending PROTOCOL_VERSION10 as protocol version i can suggest you to modify this by the protocol version used by Interbase 4, in GDS.CS line 2150, recompile the provider sources ( using NAnt nant.sourceforge.net) and try it, with your app or using the NUnit test suite, and if you can please comment here the results of your test :). -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

Hi, My development machine is Win XP, Firebird 1.03, .net 1.1, FBNetProv 1.1. The production box is Win 2k Server, Interbase 4.0 (sic), .net 1.1, FBNetProv 1.1. The ASP.NET project works great on the development box. But when I try to run it on production (IB 4.0), I get GDSException: Exception of type FirebirdSql.Data.INGDS.GDSException was thrown ... FbException: connection rejected by remote interface trying to open an FbConnection. The connect string is public connStr As String = "User=xxx; Password=xxx;" & _ "Database=C:\\db\\xxx.gdb;" & _ "Server=localhost;Port=3050;Dialect=1;Charset=NONE;Role=;Connection" & _ "lifetime=15;Pooling=true;Packet Size=8192" I can connect to IB 4.0 db's via ISAPI DLL's using http on the same web site. Does firebird-net-provider work with IB 4.0? If not, any suggestions what I might try to connect to the db via asp.net? Unfortunately, upgrading from IB 4.0 is not an option. Thanks, Andy |
