What error ?? it's related to MSVCR70.dll ?? if yes probably the best 
option for you will be build the sources using nant ( nant.sourceforge.net )

You can see the CHM file in the docs package and the ADO.NET 
documentation that ships with .net framework.

There are some issues with the transaction handling that are fixed in 
RC2 and RC3.

Are you getting the exception on parameter creation ( i don't get 
exception ) or in statement execution (in that case can you send a test 
case) ??

I tried with 1.5 RC2 (that is what I could download) and haven't received exception yet. But I've to test it more as I'd told earlier that it is a very random error. I feel it won't... Fingers Crossed. :-)
 
One thing I'm curiuos about that why in the first place I got this exception? Can u guys give me any idea?
 
The second thing which I wanted to point out was that I'd to change a li'le bit of my code to work with this newer version. While creating a new parameter, my earlier code was (1.5 Beta 2)
FbParameter fbParam = new FbParameter("@no_of_days",4);
 
But this somehow was givin' me some null exception with 1.5 RC2. I changed the code to this
FbParameter fbParam = new FbParameter("@p_no_of_days",(object)0);
And  now it is workin' fine. Can I expect an explanation?
 
U've written about thread-safe. As I've metioned in my previous mail, I'm using a static class for connections and any queries. This is static class ans is same replica as the OracleHelper and MSSQL Helper libraries available on the Microsoft site. Hope u've gone thru them. I think they are thread safe. Anything u would like to add to this. I haven't gone any such issue till now.

Hi all,

I have to make a connection to an interbase 6.0 server from 
an C# application.  I have no experience with interbase so 
you can treat me a a beginner :)

I downloaded the FirebirdNETProvider1.5-RC3-NET1.1.exe file 
but it gives an error when I try to install.

All help and sample code on the best way to connect to an 
interbase server from a .net application is welcome.

Im have to get this program finished by friday so Im kinda 
doing a nightshift here :)

Huummmmm .... i'm not sure if it will match your needs but you can try 
using a DataSet ( using the DataSet.ReadXml method ) and the 
FbDataAdapter class for execute updates, inserts and deletes.


I did something like that:
- fill a dataset from XML
- creating the SQL for creating the tables in the fb database. 
- execute the sql on my database
- fill a new dataAdapter and dataset for the new table 
- filling the new dataset with the old one
- do an update

and then: crash at record 16000. 
I don't know what happened. I tried to commit every 1000 records but that
didn't help.
I rewrote the same code for MS-SQl server and that worked fine.

If anybody's interested, here is the code at the bottom.
If somebody can get this to work, I could switch over to Firebird again.

As Thomas has told yet the problem seems to be fixed in RC2 ( and i 
think in RC3 too :) ).

Try it with the RC3 and if you continue to get it send a new message to 
the list.

Ok but think in that at this moment the provider is not thread safe and 
you will need a connection per thread (maybe you are doing this yet :) )

If you use RC2 or RC3 the problems are gone.

I have done very many tests with RC2, and I cannot re-create the exception

  I've been looking into this mail archive for quite some time. And really I've learnt a lot. Thanx to Carlos and other people.
 As of now I'm using Firebird .NET Provider Beta 2 over Firebird 1.5 RC3 vesrion, and eagerly waiting for their final releases so that I can use my product in production environment.
 I was goin' thru the archive, I got thru this query posted by Thomas. To my surprise, this is the same kind of problem I'm facing and haven't been able to solve it. 
In my applicaton, I've two daemon threads that keep on pumping data in the database from a remote database. And there are couple of other threads, which have nothing else to do but just query this database for all sorts of averages. All the queries to the database are via stored procedures and there is no direct query. Moreover, I've a static class which helps in acquring a connection, executing a query(open txn, execute, close txn) and closing connection. This setup executes very fine on Windows XP, except for the error experienced by Thomas. The problem is not very consistent. Sometimes, it would go for days, without an exception, and sometimes even after few connections, I face this error. I've noticed that this error is more frequent in case of Win2K, than XP. Has anyone else, other than Thomas experienced this exception? Have u come to any solution Thomas?

Some time ago for problems with querys that works with metadata i remove 
a check for the length of char/varchar parameters, now i'm thinking in 
restore it for character sets that have 1 or 2 byte per character (there 
are a guy having problems with this).

I have a initial implementation of this in my local tree, with the 
changes both versions, 1.5 and 1.6, will do this in the same way, i mean 
the implicit transaction support will be managed in the FbCommand class.

I will try to do some tests this weekend and if all goes well commit it 
into the CVS and release the 1.5 RC3.

The problem is that I have to finish my program till the next week. This is
my first program written in the NET framework.
Till now I have used MFC and IBPP library for the Firebird connection.
